Dupleix (Paris Métro)
Dupleix () is an elevated Metro station, station on Paris Métro Line 6, line 6 of the Paris Métro in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, 15th arrondissement. The track and station form an elevated viaduct in the centre of boulevard de Grenelle. It is named after the nearby rue Dupleix and Place Dupleix, a square commemorating Joseph François Dupleix (1967-1763), marquis of Landrecies and Paris, an administrator and coloniser of India. The station was the location of the ''Barrière de Grenelle'', a gate built for the collection of taxation as part of the Wall of the Farmers-General; the gate was built between 1784 and 1788 and was demolished in the nineteenth century. History The station opened as part of the former Paris Métro Line 6, line 2 South on 24 April 1906, when it was extended from Passy (Paris Métro), Passy to Place d'Italie (Paris Métro), Place d'Italie. The Paris Métro (french: Métro de Paris ; short for Métropolitain ) is a rapid transit system in the Paris metropolitan area, France. A symbol of the city, it is known for its density within the capital's territorial limits, uniform architecture and unique entrances influenced by Art Nouveau. It is mostly underground and long. It has 308 stations, of which 64 have transfers between lines. The Montmartre funicular is considered to be part of the metro system, within which is represented by a 303rd fictive station "Funiculaire". There are 16 lines (with an additional four under construction), numbered 1 to 14, with two lines, 3bis and 7bis, named because they started out as branches of Line 3 and Line 7 respectively.
