Dumfries Rugby Club
Dumfries Saints RFC is a rugby union club based in Dumfries, Scotland. The team currently plays in Scottish National League Division Two, the third tier of Scottish club rugby. History The first rugby club from Dumfries to be admitted to the SRU was Dumfries Rangers in 1876–77. The club re-emerged in 1901 as Dumfries (without the 'Rangers') and after a lapse was re-admitted to the SRU in 1923 as Dumfries RFC. The club played at Downfield until 1939 and then at Marchfield and Summerhill. Then came a major turning point in 1953 when the club negotiated a deal to play at Park Farm. The name Dumfries Saints was adopted to reflect the link to Saint Michael and the town crest which has always been used by the club. Dumfries Sevens The club run the Dumfries Sevens. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is located near the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth about by road from the Anglo-Scottish border and just away from Cumbria by air. Dumfries is the county town of the historic county of Dumfriesshire. Before becoming King of Scots, Robert the Bruce killed his rival the Red Comyn at Greyfriars Kirk in the town on 10 February 1306. The Young Pretender had his headquarters here during a 3-day sojourn in Dumfries towards the end of 1745. During the Second World War, the bulk of the Norwegian Army during their years in exile in Britain consisted of a brigade in Dumfries. Dumfries is nicknamed ''Queen of the South''. The Scottish National League Division Two (known as Tennent's National League Division 2 for sponsorship reasons) is the third tier of the Scottish League Championship for amateur rugby union clubs in Scotland. The division was established in its current format in 2014 after the creation of three national leagues below the Premiership. This replaced the two Championship Leagues which were scrapped after just two seasons. The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. Summerhill, Dumfries
Summerhill in Dumfries is a post war residential suburb on the west side of the town. It is located on the Maxwelltown side of the River Nith that runs through Dumfries. Summerhill is bounded by Terregles Road to the north, the streets that branch off Ellisland Drive to the east, the Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club to the south and west and also to the west by the disused Maxwelltown train station. Housing The suburb consists primarily, but not exclusively, of a mixture of terraced houses and blocks of three storey flats. Most of the streets in Summerhill were given names with connotations associated with Scotland's national poet Robert Burns. Burns lived in Dumfries for his last years and died there in 1796. The Scottish National League Division Three (known as Tennent's National League Division 3 for sponsorship reasons) is the fourth tier of the Scottish League Championship for amateur rugby union clubs in Scotland. Geographical Location The Scottish National League Division Three comprises the teams from both South, North, East and West teams located across Scotland. History Until 2011, the division was the sixth tier of amateur club rugby in Scotland. For season 2011–12, league reconstruction reduced the number of nationwide leagues from six to two and the division ceased to exist; however, further changes in 2014–15 increased the amount of nationwide leagues to four, and with it the National League Division Three name returned. The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union. The team takes part in the annual Six Nations Championship and participates in the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. Scott Steele (born 24 July 1993 in Dumfries, Scotland) is a Scottish rugby union player who currently plays for Edinburgh Rugby in the United Rugby Championship. Rugby Union career Amateur career Steele began his rugby union career with Dumfries Saints. Professional career In 2011, Steele was playing with the Scotland Under 18s when his team-mate Corey Venus told him that Leicester Tigers needed a scrum half. Steele enquired and landed a trial, then an academy contract, and then a two-year deal with the Tigers. He was signed by London Irish in 2014. On 1 March 2016 it was announced that Steele had signed a two-year contract extension which would see him remain at London Irish until the end of the 2017-18 season.
