Douglas Scott (politician)
Douglas Barr Scott (12 May 1920 – 12 March 2012) was a former Australian National Party politician and briefly government minister. Scott was born in Adelaide, South Australia and graduated from Scotch College, Adelaide and from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts. He was a farmer and grazier before entering politics. During World War II, he was a member of the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve from 1941 to 1945 and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant. Scott was appointed by the Parliament of New South Wales on 6 August 1970 to the Australian Senate to fill a casual vacancy created by the death of Colin McKellar and held it until the 21 November 1970 half Senate election. He was elected to the Senate at the May 1974 election. Douglas Scott (writer)
Douglas Scott (4 December 1926 – 1996) was the pen name of Douglas Smith, a British author of thriller fiction, mostly published during the 1980s. His subject periods run from the theatres of the Second World War to post war Europe. A number of his novels feature seagoing prominently and he sometimes get categorised as an author of naval fiction. Scott was born in Broughty Ferry, Scotland on 4 December 1926. He died in 1996. Doug Scott
Douglas Keith Scott (29 May 19417 December 2020) was an English mountaineer, noted for being on the team that made the first ascent of the south-west face of Mount Everest on 24 September 1975. In receiving one of mountaineering's highest honours, the Piolet d'Or Lifetime Achievement Award, his personal style and climbs were described as "visionary". Over the years he was on 40 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia, during which he made some 30 first ascents. In 2020 he was diagnosed with cancer, and he died of the disease in December 2020. Early life Scott was born in Nottingham, England, and was the eldest of three sons. Scott would later discover that his mother was born at almost the exact same time as famed mountaineer Edmund Hillary, which Scott felt was an uncanny coincidence. Douglas Pearce, known professionally as Douglas P (born 27 April 1956), is an English folk musician, record label owner, photographer and actor who is best known for his neofolk project Death in June. Pearce was born in Sheerwater in Woking, Surrey, and currently resides in Australia, where he has lived since the mid 90s. Early life Pearce was born on 27 April 1956, and grew up in Sheerwater, suburb of Woking in Surrey which he described as a "white, working-class ghetto", to a father who worked as a courier for the military, and had served in World War II. Both of his parents were English, though his mother claimed Scots-Irish ancestry. His father died of a heart attack at age 56, when Pearce was 14.
