Donald McAlpine Australian Cinematographers Society, ACS, American Society of Cinematographers, ASC (born 13 April 1934) is an Australian cinematographer. Biography Early life and career Before his film career, McAlpine was a physical education teacher in Parkes, New South Wales, Parkes, New South Wales, Australia. He began using a 16mm Camera to film athletes preparing for the Melbourne Olympic Games. McAlpine's early career in Australia found him collaborating with other great Australian filmmakers from 1972 to 1981. In particular, Bruce Beresford. Quandialla is a village in the Central West (New South Wales), Central West region of New South Wales Australia. The town is west of Sydney. It is situated on the plains of The Bland country at the western edge of the Weddin Shire. Irwin Lawrence "Paul" Mazursky (April 25, 1930 – June 30, 2014) was an American film director, screenwriter, and actor. Known for his dramatic comedies that often dealt with modern social issues, he was nominated for five Academy Awards: three times for Best Original Screenplay, once for Best Adapted Screenplay, and once for Best Picture for ''An Unmarried Woman'' (1978). The Odd Angry Shot
''The Odd Angry Shot'' is an 1979 Australian war comedy film written, directed and produced by Tom Jeffrey (with Sue Millikin). It is based on the book of the same title by William Nagel, and follows the experiences of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War. The movie, which was shot on location in New South Wales and Canungra, Queensland, traces the tour of duty of an Australian Special Air Service Regiment reconnaissance team from their departure to their return home to Australia. It avoids much of the political comment on Australia’s involvement in Vietnam, unlike Hollywood films which tend to explore the rights and wrongs of the Vietnam War. Michael Thornhill
Michael Thornhill (29 March 1941 – 22 January 2022) was a film producer, screenwriter, and director. Career Thornhill had a background in freelance journalism and publishing including working as a film critic. He was a member of the WEA Film Study Group in the 1960s, where he met writers Ken Quinnell and Frank Moorhouse. He wrote film articles on film for the WEA Film Study Group film journal ''Film Digest'' from 1965. He and Quinnell published the film journal ''SCJ: The Sydney Cinema Journal'' from 1966 to 1968. He was the film critic for the ''Sydney Morning Herald'' and ''The Australian'' (1969 to 1973). Thornhill had an extensive career in the Australian film industry. Richard Franklin (director)
Richard Franklin (15 July 1948 – 11 July 2007) was an Australian film director. Early life and career Franklin was born and grew up in Brighton, Victoria, Brighton, Melbourne, the son of Margaret Anne (Jacobson) and Rea Richard Franklin, an engineering company director. He was educated at Haileybury, Melbourne, Haileybury College. In the 1960s, Franklin was the drummer in the Melbourne band The Pink Finks, which also featured Ross Wilson (musician), Ross Wilson and Ross Hannaford, later of Daddy Cool (band), Daddy Cool. The band released several singles, none of which had any significant chart success. Franklin decided upon a career in film rather than music. Cecil Holmes (director)
Cecil William Holmes (23 June 1921 – 24 August 1994) was a New Zealand-born film director and writer. Biography Holmes was born in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. He served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force and British Royal Navy during World War II before turning to filmmaking. He made a number of documentaries for the New Zealand National Film Unit then moved to Australia, where he directed several feature films and a number of documentaries for the Commonwealth Film Unit. The Cecil Holmes Award given by the Australian Directors Guild is named after him. The Award was instigated in 1995, and is presented by the ADG board from time to time to honour recipients who have advocated for the role of the director.
