Don Bishop
Donald William Bishop (July 1, 1934November 13, 1998) was an American football cornerback in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears. He played college football at Los Angeles City College. Early years Bishop was born on July 1, 1934 in Rawlings, Virginia. He attended Jefferson High School. He moved on to Los Angeles City College, where he was a two-way End and earned Junior College All-American honors. Professional career Pittsburgh Steelers Bishop was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 1958 NFL Draft. He was tried at split end and as a halfback, catching only 3 passes in his rookie season. In his second year, he was used at defensive halfback and punt returner, but was released after 2 games on October 12, because of poor performances. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover Wide receiver, receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such Play from scrimmage, offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. 1958 NFL Draft
The 1958 National Football League draft had its first four rounds held on December 2, 1957, and its final twenty-six rounds on January 28, 1958. Melvin Lacy Renfro (born December 30, 1941) is a former American football player, a cornerback who spent his entire 14-year career in the National Football League (NFL) with the Dallas Cowboys. Everson Walls
Everson Collins Walls (born December 28, 1959) is a former American football defensive back who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants, and the Cleveland Browns. During his 14 seasons, he was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. He was also a 3-time All-Pro selection. Walls won a Super Bowl with the Giants after the 1990 season. Dick Lynch
Richard Dennis Lynch (April 29, 1936 – September 24, 2008) was an American football defensive back in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants. He was a one-time Pro Bowler in 1963, when he led the NFL in interceptions. He also led the league in interceptions in 1961. Biography Lynch was born in Oceanside, New York. He grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, and attended Phillipsburg Catholic High School. Lynch played college football at the University of Notre Dame and is in their Hall of Fame. While known as a defensive standout as a professional, in 1957 he scored the only touchdown in Notre Dame's 7–0 win over the University of Oklahoma that ended the Sooners' 47-game winning streak. 1961 NFL Season
The 1961 NFL season was the 42nd regular season of the National Football League (NFL). The league expanded to 14 teams with the addition of the Minnesota Vikings, after the team's owners declined to be charter members of the new American Football League. The schedule was also expanded from 12 games per team to 14 games per team where it would stay for 16 years. The Vikings were placed in the Western Conference, and the Dallas Cowboys were switched from the Western Conference to the Eastern. The addition of the Vikings returned the NFL to an even number of teams (and eliminated the bye week of 1960 until temporarily and on a permanent basis). The season ended when the Green Bay Packers shut out the New York Giants 37–0 in the 1961 NFL Championship Game. Thomas Anthony Franckhauser (May 26, 1937 – April 17, 1997) was an American football cornerback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Minnesota Vikings. He played college football at Purdue University. Early years Known as "Knute", Franckhauser was born in Steubenville, Ohio, and played high school football there at Catholic Central High School. He accepted a scholarship from Purdue University, where he became a three-year starter at offensive end.
