Dolf Verroen
Dolf Verroen (born 20 November 1928) is a Dutch writer of children's literature. Career Early in his career, he worked for the newspaper ''Het Vrije Volk''. Verroen made his debut in 1955 with the poetry collection ''In los verband''. His first children's book ''Het boek van Jan-Kees'', later republished as ''Paarden, van die enge grote'', was published in 1958 although he wrote the story originally between age 14 and 15. He won the Gouden Griffel, Zilveren Griffel award four times: in 1979 for ''De kat in de gordijnen'', in 1981 for ''Hoe weet jij dat nou?'', in 1987 for ''Een leeuw met lange tanden'' and in 2019 for ''Droomopa''. In 2006, he won the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis for his book ''Wie schön weiß ich bin'', a German translation of ''Slaaf Kindje Slaaf'' by Rolf Erdorf. The book was later republished under the title ''Hoe mooi wit ik ben'' with illustrations by Martijn van der Linden. The book is inspired by his journey to Suriname with Miep Diekmann in 1976. ...

Gouden Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Boekenweek, Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek, Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Boekenweek
In the Netherlands, the Boekenweek (; English: Book Week) is an annual "week" of ten days dedicated to Dutch literature. It has been held in March annually since 1932. Each Boekenweek has a theme. The beginning of the Boekenweek is marked by the ''Boekenbal'' (''book ball''), a gathering that is attended by writers and publishers. Events are held across the country during the Boekenweek, such as book signing sessions, literary festivals and debates. Publications Each year a well-known writer, usually Dutch or Flemish, is asked to write a book, usually a novella, called the ''Boekenweekgeschenk'' (''book week gift''), which is to be given away during the festival. Harrie Geelen (born 10 January 1939, in Heerlen) is a Dutch illustrator, film director, animator, translator, writer A writer is a person who uses written words in different writing styles and techniques to communicate ideas. Writers produce different forms of literary art and creative writing such as novels, short stories, books, poetry, travelogues, ... and poet. In 2014, he was made a knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion ("Ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw"). Thé Tjong-Khing
Thé Tjong-Khing (; born August 4, 1933) is a children's book illustrator based in the Netherlands. He was born in Purworedjo, Java to a large Chinese Indonesian family. As a child he was interested in the Tarzan comic strips of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Thé attended the ''Seni Rupa'' (arts) institute in Bandung. He came to the Netherlands in 1956 and started as a draftsman at the ''Toonder Studio's'', initially as a volunteer and later as an employee. In addition to his work on Oliver B. Bumble comics, he also contributed to the magazine ''Tina'' and created ''Arman & Ilva''. In 1970 he was asked to provide illustration for Miep Diekmann's children's book. Het Vrije Volk
''Het Vrije Volk'' was a Dutch social-democratic daily newspaper. It was the successor, after World War II, of the socialist daily '' Het Volk''. The paper appeared legally 1 March 1945 in Eindhoven. From 28 January 1946, all subdivisions of the newspaper were united and a national edition was introduced. For a time, it was the biggest newspaper in the Netherlands and at its peak it had over 300 editors and reporters. After 1958, the number of subscribers decreased rapidly. The newspaper disappeared in 1970 as a national newspaper from Amsterdam, only regional editions remained and at the end of 1971 only Rotterdam was its home base. The last edition entitled ''Het Vrije Volk'' appeared on 30 March 1991 and it was merged with the '' Rotterdams Nieuwsblad'' into the ''Rotterdams Dagblad''.
