Directorate-General For Energy
The Directorate-General for Energy (DG Ener), or ENER, is a Directorate-General of the European Commission, created on 17 February 2010 when it was separated from the Transport DG, with which it had been combined since 2000. Mission The Directorate-General for Energy is responsible for promoting and regulating the European Energy Union and, since 2019, overseeing the implementation of the Clean Energy for all Europeans package as part of the European Green New Deal. Resources The Directorate-General for Energy, based primarily in Brussels, reports to Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy. The former Commissioner for Energy and Climate was Miguel Arias Cañete. The current Director-General is Ms Ditte Juul-Jorgensen, former Director-Generals include Mr Dominique Ristori and Mr Phillip Lowe. Within the European Union, Directorates-General are departments with specific zones of responsibility, the equivalent of ministries at a national level. European Commission
The European Commission (EC) is the executive of the European Union (EU). It operates as a cabinet government, with 27 members of the Commission (informally known as "Commissioners") headed by a President. It includes an administrative body of about 32,000 European civil servants. The Commission is divided into departments known as Directorates-General (DGs) that can be likened to departments or ministries each headed by a Director-General who is responsible to a Commissioner. There is one member per member state, but members are bound by their oath of office to represent the general interest of the EU as a whole rather than their home state. Directorate-General For Mobility And Transport
The Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) is a Directorate-General of the European Commission responsible for transport within the European Union. DG MOVE was created on 17 February 2010 when energy was split from it to form the new DG Ener. Transport and Energy had been merged (as DG TREN) since January 2000 and in June 2002 the Euratom Safeguards Office became part of DG TREN. That is now part of DG Ener. In addition to developing EU policies in the transport sector and handling State aid dossiers, DG MOVE manages the Connecting Europe Facility funding programme for the Trans-European Transport Networks and technological development and innovation, worth €26.25 billion. Kadri Simson
Kadri Simson (née Must, born 22 January 1977) is an Estonian politician from the Centre Party, European Commissioner for Energy in the von der Leyen Commission since 1 December 2019. She was previously Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications in Jüri Ratas' first cabinet from 2016 to 2019. In 2015 she unsuccessfully challenged party leader Edgar Savisaar for his role after an almost uninterrupted 25-year tenure. Savisaar won the vote of 541 delegates, to Simson's 486, from a total of 1,051. European Commissioner For Energy
The European Commissioner for Energy is a member of the European Commission. The current Commissioner is Kadri Simson, in office since 1 December 2019. Responsibilities The Commissioner holds responsibility for the European Union's energy policy as well as nuclear issues ( Euratom). It was previously a backwater in the commission but has now become sought-after as the European energy policy has been developed. Miguel Arias Cañete
Miguel Arias Cañete (born 24 February 1950) is a Spanish politician who served as European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action in the Juncker Commission from 2014 and 2019. A member of the People's Party, Arias served as Minister for Agriculture, Food and Environment in the Government of Spain from 2011 until 2014, before being selected to head his Party List in the European Parliamentary elections. Early life and education Arias Cañete was born to Judge don Alfonso Arias de la Cuesta, and educated in Madrid, first at the Jesuit School at Chamartín before reading Law at the Universidad Complutense. Dominique Ristori (Toulon, 12 March 1952) is a European civil servant from France. From January 2014 to August 2019, Ristori was the director-general of the Directorate-General for Energy within the European Commission. Career In 1973 Ristori became a Bachelor of Law (''Licencié en Droit'') and gained a Certificate in International Studies from the University of Nice.
