Atom Ellis
Atom Ellis (born April 8, 1966) is a bass guitarist from San Francisco, California. Atom was a founding member of the Thrash Funk band Psychefunkapus from 1986 to 1992 and a member of the San Francisco band Dieselhed from 1993 to 2000. During and after his tenure with Dieselhed he also performed as a regular sideman for Link Wray from 1996 to 2003. For shorter stints Atom performed and recorded with World Entertainment War, The Pop-o-pies, Linda Perry, Virgil Shaw, Richard Thompson, Carl Hancock Rux, Neil Hamburger, Chuck Prophet, and Brittany Shane. Virgil Shaw
Virgil Shaw is an American singer-songwriter based in San Francisco. Shaw spent his early life in Fairfax, California. He released two country rock albums in the early 2000s, ''Quad Cities'' and ''Still Falling''. Early career He began his career in Arcata, California in the late 1980s as a member of the high energy speed-pop band Brent's T.V. He later moved to San Francisco where he played in the band Dieselhed from 1992 to 2000. When Dieselhed disbanded in 2000, Shaw began to perform and record as a solo artist, sometimes with the help of his backing band that he named "The Killer Views". Zac Holtzman
Zac Holtzman is an American guitarist and co-founder of the band Dengue Fever (band), Dengue Fever. Dieselhed From 1989-2000 Holtzman was guitarist, co-vocalist, and co-songwriter for the group Dieselhed, a San Francisco-based rock band. Dengue Fever Holtzman formed Dengue Fever (band), Dengue Fever in 2001 with his brother, Ethan Holtzman. In the 1990s Ethan became interested in Cambodian pop and rock through the compilation album ''Cambodian Rocks'' and eventually visited the country, returning with several cassette tapes he purchased there. Some time later, Ethan heard Zac listening to the same music and had an idea for a band based on the psychedelic, surf, garage rock and pop of pre-Khmer Rouge Cambodia. Jonathan Segel
Jonathan Segel (born September 3, 1963) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has played with Camper Van Beethoven, Sparklehorse, Eugene Chadbourne, and Dieselhed. Early life and education Segel was born in Marseille, France, and grew up in Davis, California and Tucson, Arizona. His parents, both professors at University of California, Davis, were biochemist Irwin H. Segel and microbiologist Wiltraud Pfeiffer. Segel went to college at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he studied under Peter Elsea and experimental music pioneer Gordon Mumma. He later obtained a master's degree in music composition at Mills College, studying with Fred Frith, Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Curran and Joëlle Léandre. Danny Heifetz
Danny Heifetz (born 1964 in New York City) is an American musician who is perhaps best known for being the drummer for American experimental rock group, Mr. Bungle from 1989, until their disbandment in 2000. Bong Load Records
Bong Load Records is an independent record label originally based in Los Angeles which was founded by producers Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf and partner Bradshaw Lambert. Much of the Bong Load Records catalog is released in small quantities. Several bands have very rare releases that are much sought after and command high prices at auctions. Bong Load Records relaunched on its 25th anniversary in 2016 with limited edition vinyl releases. Tom Rothrock sums up the label "Our core philosophy of the indie label was always about making high quality music with artists who have dedicated their lives to their craft – artists who otherwise might not have been heard." Camper Van Beethoven
Camper Van Beethoven is an American rock band formed in Redlands, California in 1983, later based in Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Their style mixes elements of pop, ska, punk rock, folk, alternative country, and world music. The band initially polarized audiences within the hardcore punk scene of California's Inland Empire before finding wider acceptance and, eventually, an international audience. Their strong iconoclasm and emphasis on do-it-yourself values proved influential to the burgeoning indie rock movement. Dengue Fever (band)
Dengue Fever is an American band from Los Angeles who combine Cambodian rock and pop music of the 1960s and 70s with psychedelic rock and other world music styles. History In the late 1990s, keyboardist Ethan Holtzman discovered Cambodian psychedelic rock music while traveling in that country. Coincidentally, his guitarist brother Zac Holtzman (then with the band Dieselhed) had discovered the same music while working at a record store. The brothers formed Dengue Fever in 2001 to perform songs recorded by Cambodian artists like Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Serey Sothea, Pen Ran, and others, most of whom died or disappeared during the Khmer Rouge regime. The band first recruited bassist Senon Williams (also a member of Radar Bros. until 2009), former Beck saxophonist/flutist David Rallicke, and drummer Paul Smith. Neil Hamburger is a fictional standup comedian and singer created by Australian-American entertainer Gregg Turkington. Distinguished for his misanthropic jokes and anti-comedy style, Turkington has released a number of albums as Hamburger and has appeared as the character in various films, television shows, and other media. In 2015, the act inspired the feature-length film ''Entertainment'', which stars Turkington as a "variant" of the character. Turkington developed the character in the 1990s and originally envisioned the concept as a "weird recording project".
