Didrik Cappelen
Didrik Cappelen (8 October 1900 – 27 August 1970) was a Norwegian jurist and politician. He was born at Kviteseid in Telemark, Norway. He was a son of Supreme Court Attorney Didrik Cappelen (1873-1941) and Antoinette Therese von der Lippe (1876-1934). His brother was the jurist Hans Cappelen and his sister was the actress and singer Linge Langård. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany Cappelen worked together with his father, Carl P. Wright and Sverre Løberg in organizing resistance activities in the county of Telemark, Norway. Cappelen was arrested and in prison from 1940 to 1942 in Oslo, but escaped 30 January 1942. Kviteseid
Kviteseid is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Kviteseid. The parish of ''Hvideseid'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Kviteseid Seminar was the first public school which started in 1819 and was in operation until 1889. Kviteseid Library (''Kviteseid Folkebibliotek'') was founded in 1895. The library was first based on a book collection from Kviteseid Seminar. The main industries of the municipality are forestry, agriculture, tourism, and hydroelectric power. The Telemark Canal goes through Kviteseid. There are also several ski resorts in Kviteseid. Vrådal is one of them. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. Hans Cappelen (18 December 1903 – 21 October 1979 ) was a Norwegian jurist, businessperson and resistance fighter. He was born at Kviteseid in Telemark, Norway. He was a son of Supreme Court Attorney Didrik Cappelen (1873–1941) and Antoinette Therese von der Lippe (1876–1934). He was a brother of the jurist and politician Didrik Cappelen and the actress and singer Linge Langård. He held a degree in law and worked in senior positions in the Philips Group and was a member of the board of Norsk AS Philips. Under the German occupation of Norway during World War II, he was arrested and sent to prison.
