Department Of Health And Social Security (Isle Of Man)
The Department of Health and Social Security ( gv, Rheynn Slaynt as Shickyrys Y Theay) or DHSS provided healthcare (hospitals, doctors, dentistry, ambulance service), social services (mental health, social workers, and residential care), and social security (state pensions, child benefit, sickness benefit, and Jobseeker's Allowance). Prior to the separation of its component parts on 1 April 2010, the DHSS was the largest employer on the Isle of Man, with over 3,000 members of staff. The DHSS was largely replaced by two new Departments, the Department of Health and the Department of Social Care, with some Social Security functions transferring to the Isle of Man Treasury. Clare Christian
Clare Margaret Christian OBE CP (born 11 September 1945) is a Manx politician, who was President of Tynwald until 2016. She is a former member of the Legislative Council and former Health Minister in the Isle of Man Government. Christian is the daughter of Sir Charles Kerruish, President of Tynwald and Chairman of the Executive Council. Her sister is Anne Craine, the former Treasury Minister. She is a graduate of the University of London with a degree in Physics and Chemistry, and previously worked as a research chemist for Cadbury Schweppes. She was also the Island Guide Commissioner from 1991 to 1996. Christian became an MHK at her first attempt for the Ayre constituency in March 1980, but failed to be re-elected in 1986. Steve Rodan
Stephen Charles Rodan MLC (born 19 April 1954) is a Manx politician who served as the President of Tynwald from 2016 to 2021 and is a former Minister of the Isle of Man Government and former MHK for the constituency of Garff. He was first elected to the seat in a by-election in 1995. He has been Isle of Man County Chairman of the Royal British Legion since 2012. The House of Keys () is the directly elected lower house of Tynwald, the parliament of the Isle of Man, the other branch being the Legislative Council. History The oldest known reference to the name is in a document of 1417, written in Latin by an English scholar, which refers to (the 'Keys of Mann') and (the 'Keys of Law'). There is a dispute, however, over the origin of the name. The word ''keys'' is thought by some to be an English corruption of a form of the Norse verb ('to choose'). However, a more likely explanation is that it is a mishearing of the Manx-language term for 'four and twenty': , the House having always had 24 members. William Edward "Eddie" Teare, (born 10 May 1948) is a Manx politician, who was the Minister of the Treasury from 2011 to 2016 after holding other ministerial positions. He was MHK (Member of the House of Keys) for Ayre from 2004 to 2016, having first been elected to the House in a 2004 by-election. He was educated at Ramsey Grammar School. He is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has a distinction in the Finance of Foreign Trade. He worked for the Isle of Man Bank from 1965 to 2004, rising to risk manager and senior relationship manager. He has also worked as a conveyancing manager at Laurence Keenan Advocates. George Martyn Quayle, MHK (6 February 1959 – 26 August 2016) was a Manx politician who previously held the position of Minister of Tourism and Leisure in the Isle of Man Government and represented Middle in the House of Keys. He served as minister of the Department of Social Care. Martyn Quayle was born on the Isle of Man, the son of George Douglas Quayle and Elaine Evelyn Corrin. Dudley Butt MLC (born 1946) was a Member of the Legislative Council and Tynwald in the Isle of Man. He is a former Detective Chief Inspector of the Isle of Man Constabulary. David Anderson (Manx Politician)
David Moore Anderson MHK (born 6 February 1954) is a former Member of the House of Keys for Glenfaba. He also served in a number of ministerial posts on the Isle of Man and is therefore a former member of the Council of Ministers. Political career Anderson was elected as a Member of the House of Keys in 2001 for Glenfaba. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2011. He had previously served as a Commissioner for the parish of Patrick from 1992 until his election to the House of Keys. The Isle of Man Government ( gv, Reiltys Ellan Vannin) is the government of the Isle of Man.
