Delerium
Delerium is a Canadian new-age ambient electronic musical duo that formed in 1987, originally as a side project of the influential industrial music act Front Line Assembly. Throughout the band’s history, their musical style has encompassed a broad range, including dark ethereal ambient trance, voiceless industrial soundscapes, and electronic pop music. They are best known for their worldwide hit "Silence". The band is known to feature female guest vocalists on their albums since their 1994 album ''Semantic Spaces''. Silence (Delerium Song)
"Silence" is a song by Canadian electronic music group Delerium featuring Canadian singer and co-writer Sarah McLachlan, first released in May 1999. Over the years, its remixes have been hailed as one of the greatest trance songs of all time, over a decade after its initial release. The Tiësto remix of the song was voted by ''Mixmag'' readers as the 12th greatest dance record of all time. Song The original album version and subsequent radio edit of the song had a much slower tempo than the more well-known remixes and was essentially structured like a pop song, with the characteristic synthetic instrumentation of the more melodic side of ambient music — though including darker overtones, such as the prominently featured Gregorian chant ('' Gloria in Excelsis Deo''). __NOTOC__ ''Karma'' is the ninth studio album by Canadian industrial/electronic music group Delerium. Guest musicians on the album include Sarah McLachlan ("Silence"), Lisa Gerrard ("Forgotten Worlds"), Kristy Thirsk ("Enchanted", "Lamentation", "Wisdom", "'Til The End Of Time"), Jacqui Hunt ("Euphoria (Firefly)"), Greg Reely, and Camille Henderson ("Duende"). The album took around a year to record and assemble. Gregorian chants were recorded especially for the project; according to Bill Leeb, it was less expensive to hire a 30-piece choir, rent a West-Vancouver church, move the equipment and record the chants live than to pay for the rights to sample existing recordings. The duo's collaboration with McLachlan, "Silence", became the band's biggest hit single. Rhys Fulber
Nowell Rhys Fulber is a Canadian electronic musician and producer. He is a member of Front Line Assembly and Delerium, along with Bill Leeb. He also records under his own name and under the name Conjure One. Biography Rhys Fulber was born in Vancouver, Canada on October 10, 1970. His father, a musician, was born in Germany and his mother was from Great Britain. His father introduced him to the music of Led Zeppelin and Kraftwerk (and took him along to see Kraftwerk live in 1975). Fulber became interested in music and started drumming on his father's instruments at a very early age. His father later built and ran a recording studio, catering toward the local punk rock scene. As a youth, Fulber spent a lot of time at the studio. In 1984 he started becoming more interested in electronic music and acquired his first synthesizer. Bill Leeb
Wilhelm Anton "Bill" Leeb (born 21 September 1966, in Vienna, Austria) is an Austrian-Canadian electronic musician and record producer. He is best known for being a founding member of the industrial music group Front Line Assembly. Additionally, Leeb is known for his work with groups such as Noise Unit, Delerium, Intermix, and Skinny Puppy, among others. Career Leeb began his musical career with industrial band Skinny Puppy in 1985 under the pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder, contributing bass synth and occasional backing vocals to a few of their recordings and concerts. He left in 1986 and formed his own industrial project Front Line Assembly with Michael Balch, and later Rhys Fulber and Chris Peterson. Though Front Line Assembly has had consistent underground success, Leeb's most widely known efforts are through his side project Delerium, which had a major hit in the late 1990s with "Silence". ''Faces, Forms & Illusions'' is the debut studio album by the Canadian ambient/electronic music group Delerium that was released on January 6, 1989 on the Dossier label. The album was re-issued in 1997 on Cleopatra Records with the bonus track "Dark Star" added and "Hidden Mask" removed. All songs written by Bill Leeb, except "Monuments of Deceit" and "Mecca", which were co-written by Bill Leeb and Michael Balch. "Hidden Mask" features samples from the song "Im Nin'alu" by Ofra Haza. Front Line Assembly
Front Line Assembly (FLA) is a Canadian electro-industrial band formed by Bill Leeb in 1986 after leaving Skinny Puppy. FLA has developed its own sound incorporating elements of electronic body music and electro-industrial. The band's membership has rotated through the years, including Michael Balch, Rhys Fulber, and Chris Peterson, all of whom are associated with several other acts. Since their inception, the group have produced over a dozen studio albums and EPs, several of which have charted on '' Billboards Top Dance/Electronic Album chart. Conjure One
Conjure One is a Canadian electronic music project, headed by Rhys Fulber, better known as a member of Front Line Assembly and Delerium. History After performing with Front Line Assembly at the 1996 Roskilde Festival, Fulber left the band to pursue a solo career. He set up a studio in Amsterdam; the influence of life there, and traveling to the Eastern Mediterranean, gave him the idea of an ethnic ambient project. Soon after, a debut album was announced, though Fulber's work as a producer and remixer eventually pushed its release to September 2002. The self-titled album was a fusion of the electronic characteristics of Fulber's previous work—keyboard-based, with rhythmic dance beats—and the influences of Middle Eastern music, which inspired ambient melodies more reminiscent of Delerium. Synæsthesia was a Canadian ambient band formed by industrial musicians Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber as a side project of their main band Front Line Assembly. ''Keyboard'' magazine writes: "Synæsthesia explores dark tribal ambient sounds, composers have a flair for cinematic electronica, and favor epic pieces that unfold slowly."
