Del Bonita Border Crossing
The Del Bonita Border Crossing connects the town of Cut Bank, Montana with Del Bonita, Alberta on the Canada–US border. It is reached by Montana Secondary Highway 213 on the American side and Alberta Highway 62 on the Canadian side. The crossing was established in 1939, when the highway was completed. At that time, the nearby crossing at Whiskey Gap was permanently closed.Legg, Herbert (1962). Cut Bank is a city in and the county seat of Glacier County, Montana, United States, located just east of the "cut bank" (gorge) along Cut Bank Creek. The population was 3,056 at the 2020 census, The town began in 1891 with the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. Del Bonita is a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada within Cardston County. It is located approximately south of Magrath at the junction of Highway 62 and Highway 501. Due to its location near the Canada–United States border, it serves as a port of entry into the U.S. state of Montana at the nearby Del Bonita Border Crossing which is located to the south. Whiskey Gap, Alberta
Whiskey Gap, originally known as "Fareham", is a ghost town in Cardston County, Alberta, Canada. The former community is approximately south of the city of Lethbridge, southeast of the town of Cardston and west of Del Bonita on Highway 501. History In the 1860s and 1870s American traders crossed into what would eventually become Alberta to trade goods and alcohol for buffalo robes and furs. One of the main routes for this trade, the Riplinger Road, crossed the border just west of Whiskey Gap. Many of the wagon cart trails from the early settlers from this era can still be seen over a hundred years later throughout the valley. During the Canadian prohibition period in Alberta between 1916 and 1924 alcohol was smuggled through this area from the United States into Canada. Whetstone International Airport or Del Bonita/Whetstone International Airport is a public use airport at the Canada–US border, in Port of Del Bonita, Glacier County, Montana, south of Del Bonita, Cardston County, Alberta. The airport is owned by the U.S. state of Montana and is operated by the Montana Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division. It is located northwest of the city of Cut Bank, Montana.
