Defence Equipment And Support
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is a trading entity and joint-defence organisation within the UK Ministry of Defence. It began operating on 2 April 2007, following the merger of the MoD's Defence Procurement Agency and the Defence Logistics Organisation, under the Chief Executive Officer of Defence Equipment and Support. DE&S initially had a civilian and military workforce of around 29,000 (77 per cent civilian and 23 per cent military) in the UK and abroad. As of 2022 the DE&S workforce had reduced to around 11,500 with the majority based at MoD Abbey Wood in Bristol. History Defence Equipment and Support was established on 2 April 2007. MoD Abbey Wood
MoD Abbey Wood is a Ministry of Defence (United Kingdom), Ministry of Defence establishment at Filton, Bristol, United Kingdom. The purpose-built site houses the MoD's Defence Equipment and Support and Submarine Delivery Agency procurement organisations. It was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in July 1996, after which 15 government departments employing some 13,400 people relocated to the site. History A total of 69 sites were originally considered for the headquarters of the MOD's procurement organisation, with Solihull, Sunderland, Keynsham and South Wales being amongst the other options. Work commenced in September 1993 to build MOD Abbey Wood's offices, restaurants, library, sports facilities, training rooms, auditoria and conference rooms, support facilities and nursery. Sir Bernard Peter Gray (born 6 September 1960 in Redhill, Surrey) is a British businessman, journalist, and former government worker. Education Gray read chemistry at the University of Oxford. Paul Jaques
Lieutenant General Paul William Jaques, is a senior British Army officer, who served as Chief of Materiel (Land) and Quartermaster-General to the Forces. Military career Jaques was commissioned into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) on 6 August 1983. He became commander of the 101st Logistic Brigade in December 2005, and saw action in that role in the Iraq War. General Sir Christopher Michael Deverell, (known as Chris), is a retired British Army officer who served as Commander of the UK's Joint Forces Command and member of the UK Chiefs of Staff Committee from April 2016 to May 2019. Early life and education Deverell was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire. He studied philosophy, politics and economics at Mansfield College, Oxford, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1982. Gary Coward
Lieutenant General Sir Gary Robert Coward, (born 26 August 1955) is a retired senior British Army officer, who served as Chief of Materiél (Land) and Quartermaster-General to the Forces from September 2009 until his retirement in May 2012. Military career Coward was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1974, but transferred to the Army Air Corps in 1983. The Quartermaster-General to the Forces (QMG) is a senior general in the British Army. The post has become symbolic: the Ministry of Defence organisation charts since 2011 have not used the term "Quartermaster-General to the Forces"; they simply refer to "Chief of Materiel (Land)".
