Deer day is an unofficial holiday held on the first day of the hunting season in many rural areas of the United States in which school districts are often closed. From 1963 to 2019, the first day of the deer hunting season with firearms in Pennsylvania has been the Monday after Thanksgiving, which has developed into a tradition. A hunting season is the designated time in which certain game animals can be killed in certain designated areas. In the United States, each state determines and sets its own specific dates to hunt the certain game animal, such as California, in which they designate certain zones, in which each have their own separate dates in order to legally hunt. In the United States, each state has primary responsibility and authority over the hunting of wildlife that resides within state boundaries. Hunting is the human practice of seeking, pursuing, capturing, or killing wildlife or feral animals.
