Misfits (band)
The Misfits are an American punk rock band often recognized as the pioneers of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. The group was founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, by vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist Glenn Danzig, and drummer Manny Martínez. Jerry Only joined on bass guitar shortly after. Over the next six years, membership would change frequently with Danzig and Only remaining the two sole consistent members. During this time period, they released several EPs and singles, and with Only's brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums '' Walk Among Us'' (1982) and '' Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood'' (1983), both considered to have significance to the early-1980s hardcore punk movement. Horror Punk
Horror punk is a music genre that mixes punk rock and 1950s-influenced doo-wop and rockabilly sounds with morbid and violent imagery and lyrics which are often influenced by horror films and science fiction B-movies. The genre was pioneered by the Misfits in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Subsequent bands formed in the Misfits' wake like Mourning Noise, the Undead and Samhain, solidifying horror punk's first wave. In the late 1990s and early 2000s the genre gained attention through the reunion of the Misfits and success of groups like AFI, Son of Sam and the Murderdolls. This popularity continued to the modern day with Blitzkid, Calabrese and Creeper. Misfits Records
Misfits Records is an independent record label conceived of in 2002 by founders Jerry Only of the Misfits and John Cafiero of Osaka Popstar. Intended to release Misfits material after the band's contractual obligations to Roadrunner Records were fulfilled by 2001's '' Cuts from the Crypt'', the label's first non-Misfits signing was Japanese horror punk band Balzac, and its first release was the Misfits/Balzac split single " Day the Earth Caught Fire". In 2003 the label became a formal company and launched worldwide with its first full-length releases. Misfits Records has also released material by The Nutley Brass, Osaka Popstar Osaka Popstar is a punk rock supergroup formed in 2006 by New Yorker John Cafiero. ''The Devil's Rain'' is the seventh and most recent studio album by horror punk band Misfits, released October 4, 2011, through the label that the Misfits own, Misfits Records. It is the band's first album in eight years, following 2003's covers record '' Project 1950'', and the first of original material since 1999's ''Famous Monsters''. It is also the only release by the band's lineup of Jerry Only, Dez Cadena, and Eric "Chupacabra" Arce. ''The Devil's Rain'' was produced by Ed Stasium, who previously worked with the band on ''Famous Monsters''. The album is titled after the 1975 horror film of the same name and features cover artwork by Arthur Suydam, who previously did the cover of the band's 2009 single "Land of the Dead". "Land of the Dead" is a single by the horror punk band the Misfits, released October 27, 2009 through Misfits Records. It is the first release of new studio material from the band since the 2003 covers album ''Project 1950'', and their first release of new, original material since 1999's '' Famous Monsters''. It is also the only release by the band's 2005–2010 lineup of Jerry Only, Dez Cadena, and Robo. The single's cover artwork, by '' Marvel Zombies'' artist Arthur Suydam, is based on the band's "Crimson Ghost" skull logo. Both the cover art and the single's two songs, "Land of the Dead" and "Twilight of the Dead", are an homage to director George A. Romero's ''Living Dead'' series of zombie films. "Dig Up Her Bones" is the seventh single by the punk rock band the Misfits. It was the first single released by the re-formed lineup of the band, after the original incarnation broke up in 1983. It was the only single released from their 1997 album ''American Psycho'', and the accompanying music video was the first official Misfits music video ever released. "Scream" is the ninth single by the horror punk band the Misfits, and the first single released from their 1999 album '' Famous Monsters''. The music video for the song was directed by George A. Romero, famous for his ''Living Dead'' series of zombie films. Background "Scream" was written in a parking lot in Seattle while the Misfits were on tour. The band had learned that director Wes Craven was interested in using Misfits songs for his film '' Wishmaster'', but instead they decided to submit a song for the upcoming ''Scream 2''. They recorded a demo version of the song at a studio in Phoenix, Arizona. Singer Michale Graves described this early version as having a Peter Murphy influence. "Science Fiction/Double Feature" is the opening song to the original 1973 musical stage production, ''The Rocky Horror Show'' as well as its 1975 film counterpart ''The Rocky Horror Picture Show'', book, music and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, musical arrangements by Richard Hartley. The song is reprised at the end of the show, with lyrics that reflect on the final events of the story. The song is a tribute to and sendup of various B movies and serials parodied in the show itself. Gerald Caiafa Jr. (born April 21, 1959), better known by his stage name Jerry Only, is an American musician, best known as the bassist for the Misfits and later the vocalist as well. He is the only member to appear in every Misfits lineup. Biography Misfits Only in 2008 Gerald Caiafa Jr. was born in Lodi, New Jersey. He started The Misfits with Glenn Danzig on vocals and Manny on drums in 1977, just a few months after receiving his first bass as a late Christmas present. Dez Cadena
Dez Cadena (born June 2, 1961) is an American punk rock singer and guitarist. He was the third vocalist and later rhythm guitarist for hardcore punk band Black Flag from 1980 to 1983. Cadena played guitar with Misfits from 2001 to 2015, initially joining the band alongside Doyle, Jerry Only and Robo for their 25th Anniversary Tour and has served as the band's longest tenured guitarist. Early life Born in Newark, New Jersey, his father, Ozzie Cadena, was a well-known A&R man in the music industry, and the co-founder of iconic jazz label Savoy Records. At age thirteen, Cadena moved to Hermosa Beach, California. While tending a yard sale at his father's house, Cadena met Ron Reyes and the two became friends.
