De Spelbrekers
De Spelbrekers (''The Spoilsports'') were a Dutch singing duo, consisting of Theo Rekkers (24 April 1924 – 20 April 2012) and Huug Kok (19 February 1918 – 27 October 2011). They were known for their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 1962, representing the Netherlands. Career 1940s and 1950s Rekkers and Kok met during World War II at a munitions factory in Bremen, Germany, where they were working as forced labourers. They formed De Spelbrekers in 1945, after the war had ended. Their recording career began in 1950, and they released numerous singles during the decade, the most successful being "Oh wat ben je mooi" which reached #5 in the Dutch charts in 1956. The Netherlands was represented by Annie Palmen, with the song "Een speeldoos", at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 March in London. Palmen was chosen internally as the Dutch representative by broadcaster NTS; she had previously taken part in the preselection in 1960. The 1963 Dutch selection is notable for the fact that the National Songfestival could not be broadcast due to industrial action, also that the title and lyrics of the winning song were changed twice before the Eurovision final. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1963 The national final was scheduled to take place at the Tivoli in Utrecht on 23 January. However, a dispute between NTS and the members of its orchestra had led to the latter declaring strike action, so the broadcast of the final had to be abandoned. Annie Palmen
Annie Palmen (born Anna Maria Palmen; 19 August 1926 – 15 January 2000) was a Dutch singer, best known for her participation in the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Palmen was born in IJmuiden. She started her career singing with dance orchestras around the city of Haarlem, then sang on various radio stations before her first hit record, "Ik zal je nooit meer vergeten", in 1958. Eurovision Song Contest In 1960, Palmen took part in the Dutch Eurovision selection, with the song "Wat een geluk" ("What luck"). In a somewhat odd selection process, each of eight songs was performed twice by different artists and a public vote chose the best song. Greetje Kauffeld (born 26 November 1939) is a Dutch jazz singer and Schlager musician. Biography Greetje Kauffeld was born in Rotterdam. As a child she sang hits by popular American singers and participated in school choir. When she was thirteen, she sang in a band for a Radio Hilversum competition. Later, the family moved to Zeeland. At sixteen, she was lead singer of the Skymasters, a popular band which performed on radio and in concert tours. Since the orchestra also accompanied Evelyn Künneke, René Carol, Rudi Schuricke and Fred Bertelmann, she came into contact with pop stars of the time. Saskia & Serge are a Dutch vocal duo consisting of singer Trudy van den Berg (born 23 April 1947, Grootebroek) and singer-guitarist Ruud Schaap (born 22 March 1946, Den Helder). Ben Cramer (born Bernardus Kramer; 17 February 1947) is a Dutch singer who represented the Netherlands in the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. Music career Early years Cramer was born in Amsterdam. He made his television debut in 1966 with his backing group the Spaklings, and was spotted by singer Annie de Reuver, who helped him obtain a record deal.
