Darrell Glenn
Darrell Orvis Glenn (December 7, 1935 – April 9, 1990) is an American single and songwriter. He first made his mark in the music business with his recording of "Crying in the Chapel" released in 1953, written by his father, Artie Glenn. He also wrote songs recorded by other artists including Elvis Presley. Early life Darrel Glenn was born to Foy and Artie Glenn in 1935. The family moved to Forth Worth, Texas, where he attended J. P. Elder Junior High and Fort Worth Technical High School. He won a talent contest in Waco, Texas, where the award was an opportunity to record with Bob Wills. He released "Crying in the Chapel" when he was 17 before he graduated in June 1953. Career His early recordings appeared on the Valley Records label out of Knoxville, Tennessee, produced by Floyd Wilson, who penned one of Glenn's best recordings, "I Think I'm Falling In Love With You". "Crying in the Chapel" is a song written by Artie Glenn and recorded by his son Darrell Glenn. The song was released in 1953 and reached number six on the ''Billboard'' chart. The song has also been recorded by many artists including the Orioles and June Valli, but the most successful version was by Elvis Presley, whose recording reached number three in the US, and number one in the UK in 1965. Background According to Artie Glenn's youngest son, Larry, the song was inspired by a personal experience his father had, and the chapel in the title was the Loving Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. By this account, Artie Glenn had suffered a serious back problem, and while in hospital, he bargained with God that he would become a better person if God helped him recover. He recuperated from a successful spinal surgery, and when he was released from hospital, he went to pray at the nearest chapel he could find. Pompeii Records was an American record company and label formed in 1968 in Dallas by Joe Perry, president, and Pat Morgan, chairman of the board. Distributed by Atco Records in the US and by London Records internationally, the company is noted for their Ike & Tina Turner releases in the late 1960s. Overview Joe Perry formerly of Big State Distributors formed a partnership with Pat Morgan and launched Pompeii Music Corp. which included two labels, Pompeii Records and Innis Records. Innis was founded by Ike Turner in the early 1960s and had already released a handful of singles. The first release from Pompeii was the single " So Fine" by Ike & Tina Turner in March 1968. Colleyville is a city in northeastern Tarrant County, Texas, United States, centrally located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. A wealthy suburb of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Colleyville was originally a small farm town in the 19th century. The population was 22,807 at the 2010 census. History Emerging from a number of small, rural settlements along the Cotton Belt Route, Colleyville was originally known as Bransford when Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley settled there in 1880. Kenneth Max Copeland (born December 6, 1936) is an American televangelist associated with the charismatic movement. The organization he founded in 1967, Eagle Mountain International Church Inc. (EMIC), is based in Tarrant County, Texas. Copeland's sermons are broadcast across the US and worldwide on the Victory Channel. Copeland has also written several books and resources. He preaches the prosperity gospel and is part of the Word of Faith movement. Copeland has written that parishioners will get a "hundredfold" return on their investment through giving to God.
