Dariush Safvat
Dariush Safvat ( fa, داريوش صفوت; 28 November 1928 – 17 April 2013) also spelled as Daryush Safvat, was a master Persian traditional musician, teacher, and ethnomusicologist. Safvat is best known for his mastery of setar and santur instruments. Safvat was the founding director of the in Tehran; and some credit Safvat with saving traditional music from obliteration in the 1970s. Early life and education Dariush Safvat was born on 28 November 1928 in Shiraz, Iran. He began learning to play the setar at an early age from his father, Ali Asghar Safvat, who also played the ancient instrument. Among others, Safvat studied with two other Masters of Persian classical music, Abolhasan Saba and Haji Agha Mohammad Irani Mojarrad. Shiraz (; fa, شیراز, Širâz ) is the fifth-most-populous city of Iran and the capital of Fars Province, which has been historically known as Pars () and Persis. Dariush Talai
Dariush Talai plays both the Tar and Setar. Born in 1953 in Iran, he studied Persian music with masters of the Radif. His teachers include Tar player Ali Akbar Shahnazi, Nur Ali Borumand with whom he studied radio and old compositions, as well as Youssef Forutan and Abdollah Davami, with whom he studied Setar and vocal techniques and repertories. Master Talai taught at the University of Tehran, University of Sorbonne-Paris, University of Washington-Seattle and was awarded several major prizes for his contribution to Persian Art Music. Fātemeh Vā'ezi ( fa, فاطمه واعظی, born March 16, 1950 in Tonekabon, Iran), better known as Parisā ( fa, پریسا), is a Persian classical singer, Avaz master, and one of the foremost female vocalists from Iran. Early life and musical training After finishing high school, with an emphasis on Persian literature, she started her musical work under the supervision of the renowned Persian Radif teacher, Mahmoud Karimi, a highly respected teacher of classical Persian music whose vast knowledge of the ancient repertoire was fundamental to her career. Hossein Omoumi
Hossein Omoumi (born 1944) is an Iranian-born master musician of the ney (reed flute), composer, scholar, and teacher of Persian traditional music. He is the Maseeh Professor in Persian Performing Arts in the department of music within the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Biography Omoumi started studying at the age of 14 the ney, the traditional reed flute of Iran; and studied music under ney master Hassan Kassai. Early in his career he taught at the National Conservatory of Music in Iran. In 1972, he received a PhD in architecture from the University of Florence. In 1984, he moved to Paris where he taught at Sorbonne University. He has performed at many concerts and music festivals as a player of the ney.
