Daram Island
Daram, officially the Municipality of Daram ( war, Bungto han Daram; tl, Bayan ng Daram), is a 3rd class municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Samar (province), Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 41,608 people. Etymology The origin of the name Daram is from a type of bird, called Darangsiyao, that guided the initial settlers to the island. Some time later, a Spaniard inquiring about the name of the island, mistook the name for "Daramsiyao". This was further shortened to the current name of Daram. The original name of Daramsiyao is still in use as the name of the annual festival held in Poblacion 1 on January 15. Catbalogan City
Catbalogan, officially the City of Catbalogan ( war, Siyudad han Catbalogan; fil, Lungsod ng Catbalogan), is a 5th class component city and capital of the province of Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 106,440 people. It is Samar's main commercial, trading, educational, financial and political center. The city is the gateway to the region's three Samar provinces. Catbalogan's patron saint is St. Bartholomew the Apostle whose feast day is August 24. Elpidio Quirino
Elpidio Rivera Quirino (born Elpidio Quirino y Rivera; ; November 16, 1890 – February 29, 1956) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the sixth president of the Philippines from 1948 to 1953. A lawyer by profession, Quirino entered politics when he became a representative of Ilocos Sur from 1919 to 1925. He was then elected as a senator from 1925 to 1935. In 1934, he became a member of the Philippine Independence Commission that was sent to Washington, D.C., which secured the passage of Tydings–McDuffie Act to the United States Congress. Zumarraga, Samar
Zumarraga, officially the Municipality of Zumarraga ( war, Bungto han Zumarraga; tl, Bayan ng Zumarraga), is a 5th class island municipality in the province of , Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 16,279 people. It is formerly known as Buad, Rawis, and Kawayan. The town itself, notably its downtown area, is considered by many heritage scholars as a heritage zone due to the many heritage houses within its vicinity. Samar, officially the Province of Samar ( war, Probinsya han Samar; tl, Lalawigan ng Samar), formerly named as Western Samar, is a province in the Philippines located in the Eastern Visayas region. Its capital is the city of Catbalogan. It is bordered by Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte and the Leyte Gulf, and includes several islands in the Samar Sea. Samar is connected to the island of Leyte via the San Juanico Bridge. In 1768, Leyte and modern Samar were created out of the historical province of Samar.
