Dana Porter
Dana Harris Porter (January 14, 1901 – May 13, 1967) was a Canadians, Canadian politician and jurist. Porter was a member of the Ontario Legislature from 1943 to 1958 serving as a representative for Toronto St. George and was appointed Chief Justice in 1958. He was the first chancellor of the University of Waterloo. Early life and education Porter was born January 14, 1901, in Toronto. His father, Dr. George Porter, was the director of health services at the University of Toronto and his brother was hockey player John Porter (ice hockey), John Porter, who went on to serve as executive vice-president at Simpsons (department store), Simpsons. After graduating from the University of Toronto Schools, Porter earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in 1921. Metropolitan United Church is a historic Neo-Gothic style church in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is one of the largest and most prominent churches of the United Church of Canada. It is located at 56 Queen Street East, between Bond and Church streets, in Toronto's Garden District. History The congregation, originally Methodist, was founded in 1818. It was initially housed in a small chapel on King Street West (now the site of Commerce Court North). In 1833, a larger structure was completed on Adelaide Street. Wellesley Hospital
The Wellesley Hospital was a teaching hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada affiliated with the University of Toronto. It was founded by Dr. Herbert Bruce as a private hospital, but became publicly operated in 1942. History The Wellesley Hospital was opened as a 50-bed private hospital on 27 August 1912. The original hospital building at 13 Homewood Place had previously been the home of Frederic Thomas Nicholls. In 1984, the Ross Tilley Regional Burn Centre was opened at the hospital, following extensive fund-raising by local firefighters and others. The Wellesley Hospital was the primary care centre for HIV/AIDS patients in the Toronto area from 1988 until 2001. Julian Harris Porter, (born December 4, 1936), is a Canadian lawyer and was Chairman of the Toronto Transit Commission from 1979 to 1987. Background Porter was born December 4, 1936 to Dorothy (nee Ramsay) and Dana Porter. His father was a Canadian lawyer and former Attorney General of Ontario. After graduating from the University of Toronto Schools, he studied at the University of Toronto, and the Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the bar in 1964 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1975. He is married to the publisher Anna Porter. Public service Porter was appointed as a Commissioner to the Toronto Transit Commission Board in 1977 and elected Chairman in 1979, following the resignation of G. Gordon Hurlburt.
