Dalit Panthers Of India
The Dalit Panthers are a social organisation that seeks to combat Caste system in India, caste discrimination. It was led by a group of Mahar writers and poets, including Raja Dhale, Namdeo Dhasal, and J. V. Pawar in some time between the second and the third semester of 1972. The movement's heyday lasted from the 1970s through the 1980s, and it was later joined by many Dalit-Buddhist activists. History Litterateur J. V. Pawar first became interested in the activism against Dalits discrimination by the time of B. R. Ambedkar's death on 6 December 1956. "Stunned" by Ambedkar's work, he was inspired to wrote critical pieces in collaboration with poet Namdeo Dhasal. Pawar and Dhasal's attention to the Dalit question was further increased by 1971, when a special committee by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi reported on atrocities against Dalit and two Dalit women were forced to walk naked in a Maharashtra village. ''Mid-Day'' (stylised as mid-day) is a morning daily Indian compact newspaper owned by Jagran Prakashan Limited. Editions in various languages were published in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. In 2011, the Delhi and Bangalore editions were closed down. In 2014, Jagran Prakashan shut down the mid-day Pune edition as well. Establishment It was established in Mumbai in 1979 as a family-owned newspaper by Khalid Ansari. Later, his son, Tariq Ansari led the paper, before it was sold to Jagran Prakashan in 2010. A Sunday edition, ''Sunday Mid-Day'', began in 1981. The Newspaper underwent an overhaul, both of its print editions and the website, in early 2014, creating several new sections in the daily newspaper, the Sunday edition and the website. It founded Radio One (India), a radio station initially operating as Radio Midday in Mumbai, which was eventually acquired by HT Media in 2019.
