David James (16 November 1899 – after 1929) was a Welsh professional footballer who made 201 appearances in the Football League playing as a half back or forward for Aberdare Athletic and Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career James was born in Aberdare in 1899. He joined his hometown club, Aberdare Athletic, ahead of their first season in the Football League, and went on to make 171 appearances in the Third Division South, playing at centre half, wing half, and all the forward positions in a five-and-a-half-year stay. Aberdare
Aberdare ( ; cy, Aberdâr) is a town in the Cynon Valley area of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, at the confluence of the Rivers Dare (Dâr) and Cynon. Aberdare has a population of 39,550 (mid-2017 estimate). Aberdare is south-west of Merthyr Tydfil, north-west of Cardiff and east-north-east of Swansea. The Third Division South of The Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division North with clubs elected to the League or relegated from Division Two allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division South and the Third Division North according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season.
