''Dying Light'' is a series of survival horror games developed by Techland. The franchise started in 2015 with ''Dying Light''. A sequel, '' Dying Light 2 Stay Human'' was released in 2022. A standalone game, titled '' Dying Light: The Beast'', is set to be released in 2025. The franchise sold more than 30 million copies upon release. Techland S.A. is a Polish video game developer and publisher founded in 1991 by Paweł Marchewka. It developed '' Call of Juarez'' (2006) and its prequel '' Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood'' (2009), as well as '' Dead Island'' (2011) and the '' Dying Light'' series. The company is headquartered in Wrocław in western Poland and has offices in Wrocław and Warsaw. History The company was founded in 1991 by Paweł Marchewka. Marchewka, born in 1973 in Ostrów Wielkopolski, displayed an interest in video games since his early childhood. Zombie apocalypse is a subgenre of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction in which society collapses due to overwhelming swarms of zombies. Usually, only a few individuals or small bands of human survivors are left living. There are many different causes of a zombie apocalypse in fiction. In some versions, the reason the dead rise and attack humans is unknown; in others, a parasite or infection is the cause - framing the film like a plague. Some stories have every corpse zombify regardless of the cause of death, whereas others require exposure to the infection, most commonly in the form of a bite. ''Dead Island'' is a 2011 action role-playing game developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver. Released for Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game is centered on the challenge of surviving a zombie-infested open world with an important emphasis on melee combat. The plot focuses on four playable survivors trying to survive and escape off the fictional island of Banoi. The game was announced at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, but delayed until 2011. The game's cinematic announcement trailer was met with controversy over its depiction of a dead child.
