Frederic Sackrider Remington (October 4, 1861 – December 26, 1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in the genre of Western American Art. Clarence Dutton
Clarence Edward Dutton (May 15, 1841 – January 4, 1912) was an American geologist and US Army officer. Dutton was born in Wallingford, Connecticut on May 15, 1841. He graduated from Yale College in 1860 and took postgraduate courses there until 1862, when he enlisted in the 21st Connecticut Volunteer Infantry; he fought at Fredericksburg, Suffolk, Nashville and Petersburg. He was elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society in 1871. In 1875, he began work as a geologist for John Wesley Powell and, after 1879, for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Working chiefly in the Colorado Plateau region, he wrote several classic papers, including geological studies of the high plateaus of Utah (1879–80), the Cenozoic history of the Grand Canyon district (1882), and the Charleston, South Carolina, earthquake of 1886. Joseph Dutton
Joseph Dutton (April 27, 1843 – March 26, 1931) was an American Civil War veteran and Union Army lieutenant,who converted to Catholicism and later worked as a missionary with Father Damien. He was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. His cause for canonization was opened in 2022. Biography He was born Ira Barnes Dutton in Stowe, Vermont, and was the son of Ezra Dutton and Abigail Barnes. Dutton carried out his studies at Old Academy and Milton Academy in Wisconsin. He had been raised Protestant in Baptist Sunday schools. In 1861, Dutton enlisted in 13th Wisconsin Infantry under Colonel Maurice Maloney. He served in the Quartermaster Corps of the 13th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. Hampden Dutton
William Hampden Dutton (29 October 1807 – 21 November 1849), generally known as Hampden Dutton, was a pioneering pastoralist in New South Wales and South Australia. History Hampden was the eldest child of Frederick Hugh Hampden Dutton and his wife Mary Ann Dutton, née Norris. His father, whose surname was originally Mendes, was from 1814 to 1832 British consul at Cuxhaven, Hanover. Hampden studied agricultural science in Germany from around 1822 to 1824, specialising in wool classing and sheep breeding. He was employed by the Australian Agricultural Company in 1825 to select a flock and arrived in Sydney on 22 March 1826 with a selection of around 240 sheep, though many were in poor condition and so many died subsequently that Hampden's contract was terminated. He returned to England in 1827. In 1830 Hampden and his brother Frederick Hansborough Dutton returned to Sydney. Geoffrey 'Geppie' Piers Henry Dutton AO (2 August 192217 September 1998) was an Australian author and historian. Early life and education Dutton was born at Anlaby Station near Kapunda, South Australia on 2 August 1922. His grandfather was Henry Dutton, the "Squire of Anlaby"; his parents were adventurer Henry Hampden Dutton and talented socialite Emily Dutton. Dutton grew up in four houses owned by his parents: Anlaby Station near Kapunda; Kalymna (or Kalimna) House, on the edge of the east parklands, Adelaide; Ooraminna, on the foreshore at Victor Harbor; and Rocky Point, a limestone house overlooking Eastern Cove, Kangaroo Island. He was taught French as a young boy. At age eight, he was sent to Wykeham Preparatory School near Belair, a suburb of Adelaide. Frederick Hansborough Dutton (2 April 1812 – 22 April 1890) was a pastoralist and politician in the colony of South Australia. Early life Frederick Hansborough (sometimes Hansbrow) Dutton was born on 2 April 1812 at Colne, Lancashire, and was baptised at St. Bartholomew's Church, Colne, on 25 May 1813. Frank Kennan Dutton SCOB (20 May 1949 – 20 January 2022) was a South African police officer. The dominant theme in his career was the investigation and prosecution of people guilty of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during South Africa's apartheid era. Dutton's work took place in South Africa as well as abroad. In South Africa, he helped expose the apartheid military's destabilisation machinery, and later headed the Scorpions, the country's elite police force. Francis Stacker Dutton CMG (18 October 1818 – 25 January 1877) was the seventh Premier of South Australia, serving twice, firstly in 1863 and again in 1865. Early life and education Francis Dutton was born at Cuxhaven, Germany, where his father was British vice-consul, in 1818. He was educated at Hofwyl College, near Bern in Switzerland, and afterwards at the high school at Bremen in Germany.
