Dudley Station Historic District
Dudley Station Historic District is a historic district on Washington, Warren, and Dudley Streets in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The central feature of the district is Dudley Square station (now Nubian station), a Beaux Arts/French Renaissance structure designed by Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow and built by the Boston Elevated Railway (BERy, a predecessor of the MBTA) in 1901. It is one of the best-preserved BERy stations remaining. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Nubian Station
Nubian station (variously known by its former name Dudley Square, Dudley, or Dudley Street Terminal) is a ground-level Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) bus station located in Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square) in the Roxbury, Boston, Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It is a transfer point between MBTA bus routes, including two Silver Line (MBTA), Silver Line bus rapid transit lines and local routes. Like all MBTA bus stops, Nubian is fully accessible. The original Dudley Square station opened in 1901 as a Boston Elevated Railway, BERy Orange Line (MBTA), Main Line Elevated station. Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow
Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Jr. (August 18, 1854 – February 16, 1934) was an American architect and nephew of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Biography Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Jr. was born in 1854, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow Sr. (1814–1901), a United States Coast Survey topographer, and the former Elizabeth Clapp Porter. After graduating from Harvard University in 1876, he studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and then worked as senior draftsman in Henry Hobson Richardson's office.
