Duathlon
Duathlon is an sports, athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format similar to triathlons. The World Triathlon governs the sport internationally. Distance and format Duathlons are conducted at sprint, standard, middle and long distances. The World Triathlon Duathlon Championships is a duathlon championship competition organised by World Triathlon. The race has been held annually since 1990. Kenny Souza
Kenny Souza is an American duathlete. Career Born in 1964 or 1965 and raised in Hacienda Heights, California, Kenny Souza began his sporting career as a triathlete before moving to the duathlon. During the 1980s and 1990s he was US duathlon champion eight times, world duathlon champion once, and also, because of his photogenic appearance, the most prominent athlete in the sport. His greatest successes came in 1990, when he won the first ITU Duathlon World Championship and also won the Powerman Zofingen. In 1999 he withdrew from competition after receiving a three-year suspension, retroactive to 1998, for starting without a valid license. In the following years he worked as a representative of the sports nutrition manufacturer Clif Bar. The Powerman Zofingen is a duathlon event in Zofingen (Switzerland) within the Powerman Duathlon World Series. Benny Vansteelant
Benny Vansteelant (19 November 1976 – 14 September 2007) was a Belgian duathlete. For the first decade of the 21st century he was the uncontested icon of Duathlon, winning more than 80% of the races he started at. Life He was born in Torhout. A book describing his early life and his rise to the top of the duathlon scene has been published in Dutch ( "Meneer Duatlon"). On 8 September 2007 Vansteelant was hit by a car during training on his bike. He suffered a broken leg, facial injuries, a torn spleen and damage to lungs and heart. In the days after the accident, he seemed to recover well and was getting close to leaving the intensive care section of the hospital in Roeselare on 13 September. But one day later, Vansteelant suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite receiving CPR in time, he died of a pulmonary embolism in the early morning. Aquathlon
An aquathlon is a multisport race consisting of continuous run and swim elements. Competitors complete a swim immediately followed by a run over various distances. Athletes compete for fastest overall course completion, including the time transitioning between the disciplines. Aquathlon is one of a family of endurance based multisport races, which gained popularity from triathlon and various independent races in the second half of the twentieth century. Modern aquathlon is viewed as a discipline of triathlon as standard races cover the same distances as triathlon but without the cycling leg.
