Douglas County High School (Nevada)
Douglas County High School was the high school serving Douglas County, Nevada from 1915 to the mid-1950s when it became a middle school. In 1988, the building was retired from educational uses. Designed by prolific Nevada architect Frederic Joseph DeLongchamps, it serves today as both the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center and a middle school and is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center The Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center is operated by the Douglas County Historical Society. The museum's displays include a "Main Street" exhibit with period businesses such as a mercantile, dry goods and drug store, doctor's office, barbershop and newspaper office. Nevada State Route 88
State Route 88 (SR 88) is a north–south state highway in the Carson Valley in western Douglas County, Nevada, United States. It runs from the California state line along ''Woodfords Road'' to U.S. Route 395 in Minden. Prior to 1957, the highway existed as State Route 37. The highway continues into California as California State Route 88; both highways are closely related. Although Route 88 is a secondary route today, the highway is a historical route from when Carson Pass was a major crossing of the Sierra Nevada. Douglas High School (DHS) is a public secondary school in Minden, Nevada, U.S., in the Douglas County School District. The school has existed at a number of locations during its history, including the site of the current Carson Valley Middle School. It has been located on Highway 88 in Minden since 1976. In May 2014, the campus underwent a major remodel that lasted through the summer of 2015. The remodel reworked the entire front end of the school, adding a two-story Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) building to the front of the campus. Minden is a census-designated place (CDP) in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. The population was 3,001 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County and is adjacent to the town of Gardnerville. The Douglas campus of the Western Nevada College is located in Minden. History It was founded in 1906 by Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg Jr., who named it after the town of Minden, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which was near his father's birthplace. A large share of the first settlers were Germans. Minden was founded on company land of the Dangberg Home Ranch and Dangberg commissioned most of the town's early buildings. The mustang is a free-roaming horse of the Western United States, descended from horses brought to the Americas by the Spanish. Mustangs are often referred to as wild horses, but because they are descended from once-domesticated animals, they are actually feral horses. The original mustangs were Colonial Spanish horses, but many other breeds and types of horses contributed to the modern mustang, now resulting in varying phenotypes.
