Dorothy Barry
The Barry Sisters is an Australian country music duo of Dorothy Davidson and Lorna Whiteside who became known as Dorothy and Lorna Barry. Their first releases came out billed as The Bar B-Q Girls, with songs recorded straight to disc. They were commonly featured on radio and performed on Bandstand and Six O'Clock Rock. The Allen Brothers and The Barry Sisters combined to release the single "No Hesitation" (Pye, 1961) which reached #33 on the Australian Singles Chart. The Barry Sisters own "Fly Away, Peter; Fly Away, Paul" (Pye, 1961) reached #98. They were inducted into the Tamworth Hands of Fame in 1988. ''Bandstand'' is an Australian live pop music, variety television program screened from November 1958 to June 1972. Featuring both local and international music artists, and produced in-house at the studios of the Nine Network in Willoughby, New South Wales, it was originally broadcast only in New South Wales, It became a national program in the early 1960s as the network expanded into other Australian states. The host of ''Bandstand'' for its entire existence was radio presenter and television newsreader Brian Henderson (television presenter), Brian Henderson. Although unrelated, the program was based on the concept of the American pop music show ''American Bandstand''. ''Six O'Clock Rock'' was an Australian rock and roll television show broadcast on ABC Television from 28 February 1959 to 1962 at 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Program synopsis Inspired by the BBC program ''Six-Five Special'', it had a similar format to its rival on TCN-9, ''Bandstand'' compered by Brian Henderson. This was ABC-TV's first youth-oriented music program, long before '' Countdown''. The show initially opened with American girl Ricki Merriman as compère and Johnny O'Keefe and his band The Dee Jays as guests. The Dee Jays consisted of Dave Owens (tenor sax), Johnny "Greeno" Greenan ( baritone sax) and Johnny "Catfish" Purser on drums, Keith Williams on bass guitar, and Lou Casch on guitar, Bob "Bluto" Bertles, later a leading jazz player, substituted as the second saxophone. The Allen Brothers (Australia)
The Allen Brothers were an Australian cabaret act of Peter Allen and singer and guitarist Chris Bell. Allen was then Peter Woolnough, when at the age of fifteen he met Chris Bell, part of a singing duo, The Two Shades. When the other member of The Two Shades departed it was Bell's father who picked the name Allen Brothers for Chris and Peter. They also sang with the Barry Sisters, an Australian group unrelated to the American Barry Sisters. The duo broke up at the same time as Allen's marriage to Liza Minnelli and Chris Bell went to America and formed a touring band called Boomerang in the 70's . Patsy Ann Noble
Patricia Ann Ruth Noble (3 February 1944 – 23 January 2021) was an Australian singer and actress. Initially performing as Patsy Ann Noble, she was a teenage pop singer in the early 1960s, with regular appearances on the Australian music and variety television series ''Bandstand''. In November 1961, she released her biggest hit single, "Good Looking Boy", which reached the Top 10 in Melbourne and Top 20 in Sydney. At the 1961 Logie Awards, she won the Best Female Singer of the Year award from ''TV Week''. By 1962, she had transferred to the United Kingdom and continued her singing career by releasing singles there. In 1965, Noble started her television acting career, and by 1967, she was using Trisha Noble as her stage name. Jimmy Little
James Oswald Little, AO (1 March 19372 April 2012) was an Australian Aboriginal musician, actor and teacher, who was a member of the Yorta Yorta tribe and was raised on the Cummeragunja Reserve, New South Wales. Little started his professional career in 1951, as a singer-songwriter and guitarist, which spanned six decades. For many years he was the main Aboriginal star on the Australian music scene. His music was influenced by Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis and American country music artist Jim Reeves. His gospel song "Royal Telephone" (1963) sold over 75,000 copies, and his most popular album, ''Messenger'', peaked at No. 26 in 1999 on the ARIA Albums Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1999, Little was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and won an ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. Michael Valentine 'Val' Doonican (3 February 1927 – 1 July 2015) was an Irish singer of traditional pop, easy listening and novelty songs, noted for his warm and relaxed vocal style.
