Dorothea Gray
Dorothea Helen Forbes Gray (1905– 3 July 1983) was a British classicist. For almost all of her career, she taught at St Hugh's College, Oxford, where she became known for her advocacy of pre-classical Greek archaeology (then known as "Homeric") in a period when the discipline was out of favour at the university. In addition to her college work, she worked for the British government during the Second World War and took part in excavations at Mycenae, Smyrna, on Chios and at Myrtou. Her students included the philosopher G. E. M. Anscombe and the archaeologists Richard Hope Simpson and Mervyn Popham, who both followed her into the study of the Aegean Bronze Age. Bournemouth High School
Talbot Heath School is a selective, private day and boarding school for girls aged 2–18 located in Talbot Woods, Bournemouth, Dorset, England. The school was founded as Bournemouth High School in 1886 by founding headmistress Mary Broad. Talbot Heath was originally a Church of England School. History The school was bought by Mary Broad and Miss Thresher as a going concern from its owner in 1885. The school opened under new management in January 1886 with thirty pupils. The school was called Bournemouth High School and it intended to supply a liberal education for reasonable fees to the daughters of the middle classes. Broad converted from a non-conformist to the Church of England at this time. Miss Thresher left in 1889 when she married and Mary Broad was solely in charge. Susan Sherratt
Susan Sherratt (born 26 September 1949) is Reader in Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on the archaeology of the Bronze and Early Iron Ages of the Aegean, Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean, especially trade and interaction within and beyond these regions. Early life and education Elizabeth Susan Sherratt (née Dobson; known as Sue), was born on 26 September 1949 in Houston, Scotland. She studied for a BA in Classics at New Hall (now Murray Edwards College), University of Cambridge, from 1968 to 1971, and then moved to Somerville College, University of Oxford, for a Postgraduate Diploma in Classical Archaeology (1973) and a DPhil on 12th century BCE Mycenaean pottery, supervised by Mervyn Popham (1982). Hilda Lorimer
Elizabeth Hilda Lockhart Lorimer (30 May 1873 – 1 March 1954) was a British classical scholar who spent her career at Oxford University. Her best known work was in the field of Homeric archaeology and ancient Greece, but she also visited and published on Turkey, Albania and the area that later became Yugoslavia. She took the position of vice-principal of Somerville College during the Second World War. Family Lorimer was born on 30 May 1873 in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was the second of eight children born to Reverend Robert Lorimer and his wife. Her brother David Lockhart Robertson Lorimer was a lieutenant-colonel in the British Indian Army, a linguist and a political official in the British Indian government.
