Dong Chuncai
Dong Chuncai (1905- May 22, 1990, zh, 董纯才), originally from Daye County, Hubei Province, was an educator in the People's Republic of China, a pioneer in the popularization of science, and one of the earliest theorists advocating for the dissemination of the scientific spirit in China. Biography Dong Chuncai was born on March 5, 1905, into a patriotic intellectual family in Daocheng Town, Daye County, Hubei Province, today known as Huangshi, Huangshi City. In 1915, Dong Chuncai attended Wuchang Church School, Sanyitang Primary School, and Sanyitang Middle School. During the May Fourth Movement, he actively engaged in student marches, demonstrations, and petitions in Wuhan, and was inspired by patriotism. Subsequently, he withdrew from school due to a movement opposing slavery education in religious institutions. Daye County
Daye ( zh, c= , p=Dàyě) is a county-level city in eastern Hubei province, China. It is under the administration of the Huangshi prefecture-level city. As it is usually the case with county-level cities, Daye includes both an urban core and a fair amount of rural land in all directions, with smaller townships (''zhen'') such as Dajipu ( zh, labels=no, s=大箕铺). As of 2020, Daye spans an area of , and has a population of about 871,214 residents. The city is made up of 18 township-level divisions. The Daye Lake south of Daye's urban core is surrounded by parks and fishing ponds, and is a popular place for recreation. For a traveler who goes on G316 from Wuhan toward the south-east, Daye appears as a border between the more urban and more rural parts of the province. Daye sits on the south-eastern border of the heavily industrialized Wuhan/Ezhou/Huangshi metropolitan area; south of it, the much more rural Yangxin County begins.
