Doelen Hotel
The NH Collection Amsterdam Doelen is a historic hotel in the Binnenstad (historic centre) of Amsterdam, the oldest hotel in the city. It is located on the Binnen-Amstel (inner Amstel) at the southern end of the Kloveniersburgwal. The entrance is at Nieuwe Doelenstraat 24. The hotel completed in 1883, was designated in 2001 as a ''rijksmonument'' (Dutch national heritage site). The best-preserved part of the interior is the central hall with marble stairs and balustrade and artwork by artist Gerrit Hendrik Heinen nl. History The tower named Swych Utrecht nl, part of the Amsterdam city walls and defence system. It was part of the Kloveniersdoelen, the gathering and shooting place for the city militia/guard known as "kloveniers". Doelen means "targets" in Dutch. The Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, often informally referred to as Kras'','' is a five-star hotel on Dam Square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1865, the hotel has 451 rooms, a convention center, restaurants and a pier for boats on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal. The original owner of the hotel, Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky, purchased the building in 1865 and turned it into a popular restaurant in 1866. He also bought the adjacent buildings and in 1879/1880 added rooms. During the same period, he built a chic conservatory with palm trees and cupola, designed by architect G.B. Salm, which was considered to be very modern for its time due to the use of glass, steel and electric lighting. To mark the exhibition of 1883, he built the business into a hotel with 125 rooms. The International Colonial and Export Exhibition (Dutch: ''Internationale Koloniale en Uitvoerhandel Tentoonstelling''; French: ''Exposition Universelle Coloniale et d'Exportation Générale'') was a colonial exhibition (a type of World's Fair) held in Amsterdam from May 1 to October 1, 1883. The event drew at least a million visitors and was the first international colonial exhibition, with 28 different nations presenting their colonial trade and wealth. The event was the brainchild of Edouard Agostini, a French entrepreneur. Agostini, who had previously been involved in organizing the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris, presented his plans to the city of Amsterdam and King William III of the Netherlands in 1880. Doelen Hotel Tower
De Doelen is a concert venue and convention centre in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was originally built in 1934 but then destroyed in 1940 during the German bombardment of Rotterdam in May 1940 at the outset of World War II. It was rebuilt in 1966, originally with one hall to which two more were added in the 1990s. It has a variety of facilities, including the Grote Zaal (Grand Hall), a 2,200-seat concert hall, two smaller halls which each seat about 700 people, and convention rooms. In 2015 it was classified as a Rijksmonument. Although mainly known as a venue for classical music, de Doelen is also a stage for jazz, world music and as the Central Boxoffice for the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
