It is a transferred use of a surname derived from the Old English word ''deagestre'', meaning “dyer of cloth.” Dexter is also a Latin language, Latin term meaning ''skillful.'' Dexter Daniels or Nubuluna ( – 24 December 1999) was a Numamurdirdi (Yugul Mangi) man from south-east Arnhem Land and pioneering activist in the struggle for Aboriginal rights and land rights in Australia during the 1960s and 1970s. Daniels came to public attention as the breakaway Aboriginal Organiser of the North Australian Workers' Union (NAWU) in 1966 and was integral in supporting the Wave Hill walk-off. Early life Daniels was born at the Roper River Mission in the Northern Territory of Australia. This was run by the Church Mission Society. He was the son of Ukamangara (known as Debra) and Jangridpa (known as Dan) and he was one of seven children. Dexter Dalwood (born 1960) is a British artist now based in Mexico City. Biography From 1981 until 1985 Dalwood attended Saint Martin's School of Art in London and, from 1988 until 1990, the Royal College of Art, London. Dexter Curtis (September 12, 1828 – May 15, 1898) was an American inventor, businessman, and politician. Born in Schenectady, New York, Curtis grew up on a farm. He was in the lumber business and lived in Louisiana, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois. In 1866, Curtis moved to the town of Burke, Dane County, Wisconsin and was a farmer. Dexter Edgar Converse (1829–1899) was a textile entrepreneur who was co-founder and namesake of Converse University.
