''Detectives'' is a 1928 silent film comedy produced and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was directed by Chester Franklin with elements of the old-house melodrama genre. The film is another outing for Karl Dane, George K. Arthur and Marceline Day. Clips of the film appeared in Robert Youngson's ''MGM's Big Parade of Comedy'' in 1965. One scene has George K. Arthur disappearing while within the hanging covers of a large canopy bed. The film is preserved by MGM. Chester Franklin
Chester Mortimer Franklin (September 1, 1889 – March 12, 1954) was an American film director and actor active mainly in the silent era. Born in San Francisco, he was the brother of Sidney A. Franklin. In the late 1910s, he co-directed with his brother Sidney several films with all-children casts for William Fox (producer), William Fox. He directed two silent horror films, the 1924 ''Behind the Curtain'' (a.k.a. ''Souls Which Pass in the Night'') and the 1927 ''The Thirteenth Hour''. Tenen Holtz
Tenen Holtz (born Alex Elihu Tenenholtz; February 17, 1887 – July 1, 1971) was an American actor. He appeared in nearly 60 films between 1926 and 1961. Biography Holtz was born in Ozeran, Volhynia district, now in Ukraine, and came to the United States when he was seven years old. While he was in elementary school, he began working, but he pursued studies in evening high school to improve his language abilities. Jacob Pavlovich Adler observed Holtz performing in a school production and not only gave him a permanent pass to Adler's playhouse but also allowed him to attend rehearsals. His first appearance in amateur Yiddish theatre plays occurred in 1903 in the staged readings of the works of Yiddish author Sholom Aleichem. In July 1926, he went to California "to see what all these pictures were about", he said. His film debut came in ''Upstage''. Tetsu Komai
(23 April 1894 – 10 August 1970), also known as Tetsuo Komai, was a Japanese-born American actor, known for his minor roles in Hollywood films. Biography Born in Kumamoto, Kyushu, Komai had small parts in over 50 films from the 1920s until the mid 1960s. In his early films, Tetsu, who was usually called on to play Chinese characters, was often described with derogatory terms such as "Chinaman,". He played the villain in many of his films. Komai emigrated to the United States in December 1907, arriving at the Port of Seattle; he lived in Seattle for several years after this initial immigration.
