Destruction (band)
Destruction is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982. They have been credited as one of the "Big Four" of the Teutonic thrash metal, German thrash metal scene, the others being Kreator, Sodom (band), Sodom and Tankard (band), Tankard. In addition to helping pioneer black metal, Destruction was part of the second wave of thrash metal in the mid-to-late 1980s, along with US bands Testament (band), Testament, Sacred Reich, Death Angel and Dark Angel (band), Dark Angel. For most of the 1990s, the band was not signed to a record label and self-produced their albums until they signed a contract with Nuclear Blast in the early 2000s. The band's early releases are considered by some to be classics within the thrash metal genre. Weil am Rhein (, ; High Alemannic German, High Alemannic: ''Wiil am Rhii'') is a German town and commune. It is on the east bank of the River Rhine, and extends to the tripoint of Switzerland, France, and Germany. It is the most southwesterly town in Germany and a suburb in the Trinational Eurodistrict of Basel. The town has around 30,000 inhabitants, and the Eurodistrict metropolitan area has about 830,000. ''Mad Butcher'' is the second EP by German thrash metal band Destruction (band), Destruction, released on 6 March 1987. It is the band's first studio recording featuring a four-piece lineup instead of a trio. Tommy Sandmann had left the band and two new members had entered the group: a new drummer, Oliver Kaiser, and a new guitarist, Harry Wilkens. "Mad Butcher", the first song of the album, is a re-recording from the ''Sentence of Death'' EP with a faster tempo and double solos from Sifringer and Wilkens. The second song, "The Damned", is a cover song of the Plasmatics. The third song, "Reject Emotions", is a Power Ballad, power ballad, but not really. Finally, "The Last Judgement" is an instrumental song played by Wilkens. Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. Dark Angel is an American thrash metal band from Downey, California, formed in 1981. The band's current lineup includes drummer Gene Hoglan, guitarists Eric Meyer and Laura Christine, frontman Ron Rinehart and bassist Mike Gonzalez. In its history, they have gone through many lineup changes, and as of guitarist Jim Durkin's death on March 8, 2023, there are no original members left in the current lineup of Dark Angel, although Meyer (who joined the band in 1984) is the only member to appear on all of their studio albums. Dark Angel's over-the-top style (extremely fast, heavy and lengthy songs with many tempo changes, lyrics, and extended instrumental parts) earned them the nickname "The L.A. Caffeine Machine".
