Dervenochoria
Dervenochoria () is a former municipality in Boeotia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Tanagra, of which it is a municipal unit. In 2021 its population was 1,826. The municipal unit has an area of 222.938 km2. It covers the southernmost portion of Boeotia. The main village is Pyli. Subdivisions The municipal unit Dervenochoria is subdivided into the following communities (constituent villages in brackets): * Dafni * Pyli (Pyli, Panaktos, Prasino) * Skourta * Stefani History The municipality was created in 1997. The region was a main passage from Boeotia to Attica; Dervenochoria comes from "Derveni villages" named after this passage (from turkic "derveni", "passage" named during the Ottoman times). 2023 Greece Wildfires
In July 2023, multiple wildfires started in Greece. They resulted in at least 28 deaths and injured 75 people, with over 80 wildfires being recorded. Seventy-nine people were arrested for arson. High temperatures reached , with highs anticipated to reach in Rhodes. Forecasters were suggesting that the heatwave engulfing Greece was set to be the longest in its history, lasting up to 16–17 days, surpassing the 1987 heatwave. It was also expected to be the hottest July recorded in more than 50 years. Following a series of heatwaves and wildfires taking place over Europe, wildfires in Greece started on 17 July 2023. The Greek government established a Crisis Management Unit to respond to the situation. A wildfire that started on the Greek island of Rhodes on 18 July led to the emergency evacuation, evacuation of four locations, including two seaside resorts. Dafni is situated on the northern edge of Pastra mountain. It is in a sparsely populated agricultural area, with forests to the south. Pyli, Boeotia
Pyli ( meaning "gate", before 1927: Δερβενοσάλεσι - ''Dervenosalesi'') is a village and a community in Boeotia, Greece. The community includes the villages Lefka, Panakto and Prasino. It was the seat of the former municipality of Dervenochoria. The site of the ancient Attic fortress of Panactum is between the villages of Panakto and Prasino (formerly Kavasala). Population Geography Pyli is situated at the eastern edge of the Pastra mountain. It is in a sparsely populated area, dominated by agriculture and forestry. Stefani (, before 1927: Κρώρα - ''Krora'') is a settlement in Boeotia, Greece. Stefani is part of the municipal unit Dervenochoria, which is part of the municipality Tanagra. Tanagra
Tanagra () is a town and a municipality north of Athens in Boeotia, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Schimatari. It is not far from Thebes, and it was noted in antiquity for the figurines named after it. The Tanagra figurines were a mass-produced, mold-cast and fired type of Greek terracotta figurine produced from the later fourth century BC, primarily in Tanagra. Parnitha
Mount Parnitha (, , Katharevousa and ''Parnis''/''Parnes''; sometimes Parnetha) is a lightly forested mountain range north of Athens, the highest on the peninsula of Attica, with an elevation of 1,413 m, and a summit known as Karavola (Καραβόλα). Much of the mountain is designated a National parks in Greece, national park, and is a protected habitat for wildfowl, first created in 1961.
