Der Fan
''Der Fan'' () is a 1982 West German horror thriller film directed by Eckhart Schmidt. The film follows a disturbed teenage girl's obsessive love for a pop singer named R who, after meeting her, eventually reveals that he does not love her back, leading to disastrous consequences. An uncut and restored version was released by Mondo Macabro on DVD and Blu-ray in 2015. Plot Simone (Désirée Nosbusch) loves a new wave-style pop singer known only as R ( Bodo Steiger) and does nothing else but listen to his music and write him fan letters. She does not eat, she does not sleep, and she starts skipping class. Every day she waits at the local post office in hopes that a letter from R has come for her. Eckhart Schmidt
Eckhart Schmidt (31 October 1938 – 24 October 2024) was a German film director, producer, writer and photographer. In 1982 he directed the film '' Der Fan'', with Désirée Nosbusch in the lead role, which became a cult film in Germany and worldwide. The film is an adaptation from his novel of the same title. Life and career In the beginning of his career Schmidt worked as a film critic for the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, for the monthly magazine Film and for the Bayerischer Rundfunk television channel. He started making films in the sixties and, after the success of '' Der Fan'' (1982) he made more than ten feature films in Germany. In the nineties Schmidt made three feature films in Italy, influenced by Italian directors such as Valerio Zurlini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luchino Visconti, Francesco Rosi, Federico Fellini etc. In the early 2000s Schmidt started shooting his feature films in high definition, which were all filmed in Los Angeles. ''Possession'' is a 1981 psychological horror drama film directed by Andrzej Żuławski and written by Żuławski and Frederic Tuten. The plot obliquely follows the relationship between an international spy (Sam Neill) and his wife (Isabelle Adjani), who begins exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking for a divorce. ''Possession'', an international co-production between France and West Germany, was filmed in West Berlin in 1980. Żuławski's only English-language film, it premiered at the 34th Cannes Film Festival, where Adjani won the Best Actress award for her performance. The screenplay was written during the painful divorce of Żuławski from actress Malgorzata Braunek.
