Deposed Princess Bokchang
Deposed Princess Bokchang of the Incheon Yi clan (; d. 27 November 1195) was a Korean queen consort and the 2nd wife of her nephew, King Injong of Goryeo. She was the youngest, among Queen Sundeok (oldest sister who becomes mother-in-law) and Princess Yeondeok, also the last Goryeo queen who came from the powerful Incheon Yi clan. Life On 1st month 1125 ( lunar calendar), she entered the palace at a young age. According to the '' Dongguk Tonggam'' (동국통감), it rained a lot, the wind blew strong and the trees were uprooted on the day she entered the palace like her second elder sister who had already entered the Palace. In order to poison Injong, her father served him a poisoned '' Tteok'' (떡), but she instead secretly informed the king about this. Dongguk Tonggam
The Dongguk Tonggam (''Comprehensive Mirror of the eastern state'') is a chronicle of the early history of Korea compiled by Seo Geo-jeong (1420–1488) and other scholars in the 15th century. Originally commissioned by King Sejo in 1446, it was completed under the reign of Seongjong of Joseon, in 1485. The official Choe Bu was one of the scholars who helped compile and edit the work. The earlier works on which it may have been based have not survived. The ''Dongguk Tonggam'' is the earliest extant record to list the names of the rulers of Gojoseon after Dangun. Content ''Dongguk Tonggam'' uses an annal form. ''Dongguk Tonggam'' is organised into 382 passages, of which 178 were selected from existing documents. The rest was written by the authors. In particular, Choi Bu authored 118 of them. Dongguk Tonggam is a valuable source of historical information and descriptions from Tangun to the later years of the Joseon Dynasty. Uijong Of Goryeo
Uijong of Goryeo (23 May 1127 – 7 November 1173) (r. 1146–1170) was the 18th monarch of the Goryeo dynasty of Korea. He honored his advisors with many ceremonies but hated the warriors, often forcing them to participate in martial arts competitions for the entertainment of himself and the civil officials, as well as assigning them petty portions during land distributions. He also was often drunk, further angering the warriors. Finally, in the autumn of 1170, after constant discriminations, the rage of the military officials burst. ''Tteok'' ( ko, 떡) is a class of Korean rice cakes made with steamed flour made of various grains, including glutinous or non-glutinous rice. Steamed flour can also be pounded, shaped, or pan-fried to make ''tteok''. In some cases, ''tteok'' is pounded from cooked grains. ''Tteok'' is enjoyed not only as a dessert or seasonal delicacy, but also as a meal. Goryeo
Goryeo (; ) was a Korean kingdom founded in 918, during a time of national division called the Later Three Kingdoms period, that unified and ruled the Korean Peninsula until 1392. Goryeo achieved what has been called a "true national unification" by Korean historians as it not only unified the Later Three Kingdoms but also incorporated much of the ruling class of the northern kingdom of Balhae, who had origins in Goguryeo of the earlier Three Kingdoms of Korea.
