Democrats For Liechtenstein
The Democrats for Liechtenstein (; abbreviated DpL) is a political party in Liechtenstein. Formed as a splinter of the Independents in September 2018, the party holds six seats in the Landtag of Liechtenstein. History On 16 August 2018, Landtag member Erich Hasler was expelled from the Independents (DU) due to disagreements with party leader Harry Quaderer regarding party organization and membership. Thomas Rehak and Herbert Elkuch, also members of the Landtag representing the Independents, subsequently left the party in opposition to Hasler's expulsion. The three founded a new parliamentary group, provisionally named "New Faction" (). This left the Independents with only two members of the Landtag; the new group was granted DU's seat in the presidium of the Landtag. Thomas Rehak
Thomas Rehak (born 21 January 1971) is an engineer and politician from Liechtenstein who has served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein since 2017. He is the current leader of the Democrats for Liechtenstein, since 2018. Early life Rehak was born on 21 January 1971 in Chur, Switzerland as the son of heating engineer Franz Rehak and his mother hairdresser Agnes Kindle as one of three children. He attended primary school in Triesen from 1978 to 1983 and then high school from 1983 to 1987. He held an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer from 1987 to 1991 then from 1992 to 1995 he studied at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons in Chur. Career From 1996 to 1999 he worked as a service engineer at the Alcatel-Lucent in Zurich, then TeleNet project manager at Telecom Liechtenstein. Harald 'Harry' Quaderer (born September 7, 1959) is a politician from Liechtenstein, the founder and leader of The Independents from 2013 to 2021, and a former member of the Landtag of Liechtenstein representing Oberland. Radio Liechtenstein
Radio Liechtenstein, often - particularly in its early years - shortened to Radio L, was the public radio station of Liechtenstein. It was the first and primary station to broadcast in Liechtenstein. They primarily broadcast local news, world news, music, sports, events and podcasts. There were plans to launch a radio broadcaster in the late 1930s, but this was discontinued. The plans to bring back the radio broadcaster began in 1991, and the station was launched on 15 August 1995. It is operated by the Liechtenstein Broadcasting Corporation (LRF) and funded by the Liechtenstein Government. The headquarters was located in Schaan. 2024 Liechtenstein Referendums
Eight referendums were held in Liechtenstein in 2024. On 21 January 2024 voters were asked three questions: On introducing an obligation to install Solar panel, photovoltaic panels on non-residential buildings, on the reform of the energy standards in the building sector aimed at emulating those applied in Switzerland since 2014 and in the EU since 2010, as well as on stopping the automatic sending of electronic health records to health insurance beneficiaries. All three proposals were rejected by voters. In addition, another referendum was held on 25 February 2024 with a question regarding direct elections of members of the government. Secret Ballot
The secret ballot, also known as the Australian ballot, is a voting method in which a voter's identity in an election or a referendum is anonymous. This forestalls attempts to influence the voter by intimidation, blackmailing, and potential vote buying. This system is one means of achieving the goal of political privacy. Secret ballots are used in conjunction with various voting systems. The most basic form of a secret ballot uses paper ballots upon which each voter marks their choices. Without revealing the votes, the voter folds the ballot paper in half and places it in a sealed box. This box is later emptied for counting. 2022 Liechtenstein Referendums
Two referendums were held in Liechtenstein during 2022. The first was held on 26 June 2022, in which voters decided on an exemption for pensioners from paying the annual deductible of the national health insurance. The second was held on 18 September on COVID-19 legislation. 2025 Liechtenstein General Election
General elections were held in Liechtenstein on 9 February 2025 to elect the 25 members of the Landtag of Liechtenstein, Landtag. The Patriotic Union (Liechtenstein), Patriotic Union (VU) won 10 seats, while the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP) won seven, the lowest in its history. The Democrats for Liechtenstein (DpL) won six seats, being the highest amount of seats won by a third party in Liechtenstein's history. The Free List (Liechtenstein), Free List (FL) won two seats.
