Democratic Party (Malta)
The Democratic Party (, PD) was a centrist to centre-left political party in Malta. It was founded in 2016 after a split from the Labour Party. It elected Malta's first two third party MPs for the first time since the country's Independence. In August 2020 the party announced an agreement to merge with the green Democratic Alternative party to form a new party called AD+PD. The merger was conducted on 17 October 2020. History The PD was founded in 2016 by Marlene Farrugia, who previously sat as an MP for the Labour Party before leaving the party and sitting as an independent MP. Announcing the formation of the new party in June 2016, Farrugia as interim leader stated that the party was a new alternative to the traditionally dominant Labour and Nationalist parties. Timothy Alden (politician)
Timothy Alden (born 1991) is a Maltese environmental activist and former politician, and was the last leader of the Democratic Party before it merged with Democratic Alternative to create AD+PD. Early life Timothy Alden was born in Swieqi in 1991. He spent many years in Germany at a young age. He currently lives in Naxxar. In 2016 he graduated jointly with both a Bachelors and Masters in International Management and Intercultural Studies. He attained his degrees respectively from the University of Stirling and the University of Passau. Upon returning to Malta from his studies, Alden was in talks with the President of Malta to encourage the creation of a Maltese language course on duolingo. Sliema ( ) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Districts of Malta#Northern Harbour District, Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, bars, dining, and café life. It is also the most densely populated town on the island. 2019 Maltese Local Council Elections
Local council elections were held in Malta by 25 May 2019. For the first time, all 68 municipal council were renewed at the same time, following a reform partially initiated in the 2015 election, in which half were. Results Overall results The election was not held in Mdina, since the number of candidates was equal to the number of seats. Therefore, the five candidates were directly elected. The Armed Forces of Malta () is the name given to the combined armed services of Malta. The AFM is a brigade sized organisation consisting of a headquarters and three separate regiments, with minimal air and naval forces. Godfrey Farrugia
Godfrey Farrugia (born May 4, 1960, in Żebbuġ), is a Maltese retired politician, a family doctor, who served as member of the Maltese parliament from 2013 to 2022. He formerly served as the Minister for Health and a Government Whip, of which he resigned from both posts partially for his lack of trust with the Labour Party in Government.
