This is a list of characters from Capcom's ''Darkstalkers'' media franchise, who are either based on various literary and cinematic monsters or inspired by international mythology and fairy tales. Consisting of supernatural creatures engaging in combat while participating in a tournament held on Earth in order to decide the new ruler of the otherworldly dimension of Makai. The games are set in a pastiche gothic horror universe, as is the 1997 Japanese anime miniseries '' Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge'', which was based on the first two titles and was faithful to the characters' in-game personalities. In Balkan folklore, a dhampir () is a mythical creature that is the result of a union between a vampire and a human. A jiāngshī (), also known as a Chinese hopping vampire, is a type of undead creature or reanimated corpse in Chinese folklore, Chinese legends and folklore. Due to the influence of Hong Kong cinema, it is typically depicted in modern popular culture as a stiff corpse dressed in official Hanfu, garments from the Qing dynasty.
