Dedham Mall
The Dedham Mall is a former indoor shopping mall which currently operates as an open-air power center located on Route 1 in Dedham, Massachusetts. The mall served the adjacent southeastern neighborhoods of Boston including West Roxbury, Roslindale, Readville and Hyde Park as well as the surrounding suburban towns of Westwood, Milton, and Needham. The site is located north of downtown Dedham and abuts the Charles River to the west. At its peak, the mall featured national anchor stores such as Sears, Bradlees, and Woolworth’s, along with dozens of smaller retailers. Beginning in the early 2000s, the property underwent a significant transformation from an enclosed mall into an outward-facing power center. Dedham ( ) is a New England town, town in, and the county seat of, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. South Shore Plaza is a shopping mall in Braintree, Massachusetts, United States. The mall spans of selling space, making it the largest mall in New England by square footage and the 16th-largest mall in the country. Thomas J. Flatley (August 30, 1931 - May 17, 2008) was an Irish–American billionaire and philanthropist engaged in real estate development. Early life Flatley was born on August 30, 1931, in Kiltimagh County Mayo, Ireland and grew up on a 25-acre farm. In 1950, he immigrated to New York City with only $32. Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. Hickory Farms, LLC is an American food gift retailer with headquarters in Chicago. Richard Ransom established the company in 1951 when he began selling handcrafted cheese at local fairs. Mother Brook is an artificial waterway in Dedham, and Hyde Park, Massachusetts, and the first man-made canal in the present-day United States. Constructed in 1639 by settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, it diverts water from the Charles River to the Neponset River and was originally designed to power water mills. Its creation helped establish Dedham’s early economy and laid the foundation for over 300 years of continuous industrial use.
