Dean Knudson
Dean R. Knudson (born April 29, 1961) is an American veterinarian and Republican politician. He was one of the architects of the Wisconsin Elections Commission in 2015, and served on the commission as an appointee of Assembly speaker Robin Vos from September 2017 until his sudden resignation in June 2022. He served as chairman of the commission from June 2018 through June 2020, and was expected to serve as chair again from June 2022 to June 2024, but he resigned suddenly after losing the support of Republican leaders in the state. Previously, Knudson was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing parts of and Pierce counties from 2011 to 2017. He also served as the 52nd Mayor of Hudson, Wisconsin, from April 2008 until November 2010, when he resigned after his election to the Assembly. Wisconsin Elections Commission
The Wisconsin Elections Commission is a bipartisan regulatory agency of the State of Wisconsin established to administer and enforce election laws in the state. The Wisconsin Elections Commission was established by a 2015 act of the Wisconsin Legislature which also established the Wisconsin Ethics Commission to administer campaign finance, ethics, and lobbying laws. The two commissions began operation on June 30, 2016, replacing the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB), which was abolished. The Government Accountability Board had been established in 2008 to replace the Wisconsin Elections Board and Wisconsin Ethics Board. The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (G.A.B.) was a regulatory agency for the State of Wisconsin which administered and enforced Wisconsin law pertaining to campaign finance, elections, ethics and lobbying. The agency was re-organized, over the opposition of many Democratic legislators, into two separate agencies (Ethics and Elections Commissions) following several controversies.
