De Peel Air Base
Lieutenant General Best Barracks (), formerly De Peel Air Base (), is a Royal Netherlands Army guided missile base in the Netherlands. It has only one, though not actively used, runway. History During World War II in June 1944 the German Luftwaffe constructed the first airfield near the town of De Rips, consisting of a single long and wide grass strip. The airfield did not see much use by the retreating German forces and was later briefly used in October 1944 by the Royal Canadian Air Force 126 wing as an Advanced Landing Ground (designated B-84). It was not located on the site of the current air base, but about to the north-west of it. There are no visible remains of it today. The TRML ( or "Telefunken mobile airspace surveillance radar") is a family of air defense radars first developed by Telefunken and currently produced by Hensoldt. It is a development of the earlier TRMS ( or "Telefunken mobile search radar"). The Fennek, named after the fennec (a species of small desert fox), or LGS Fennek, with LGS being short for in German (Light Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle), is a four-wheeled armed reconnaissance vehicle produced by the German company KNDS Deutschland (formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) and Dutch Defence Vehicle Systems. The AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel is an X-band electronically steered pulse-Doppler 3D radar system used to alert and cue Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) weapons to the locations of hostile targets approaching their front line forces. NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, also known as Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is a short- to medium-range ground-based air defense system developed by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) and RTX Corporation.
