David Vernon (writer)
David Vernon (born 1965 in Canberra, Australia) is an Australian writer and publisher. He has published several books relating to scepticism and childbirth. Biography Vernon is the only son of Michael Vernon and Jeanette Vernon. He established two businesses while at University, ''Whiahwe Waiting Services'' that provided catering to diplomatic missions in Canberra, and ''MangoSoft'', a software development house. He graduated from the Australian National University with qualifications in political science and economics in 1988. He subsequently obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law from University of Canberra and completed a Master of Environmental Science from Griffith University. He was editor of ''Argos'', the Journal of the Canberra Skeptics from 1986 until 1991. He was assistant editor of the '' Australian Sinclair Gazette''. Having A Great Birth In Australia
''Having a Great Birth in Australia'' is the second book from Australian writer David Vernon. The book is an edited anthology of birth experiences, that demonstrate that birth can be a positive, life-affirming event, and that it need not, with the right support, be the trauma that the media often suggests childbirth is. The experiences described are diverse, ranging from caesarean births and VBAC births, to births that take place at home and in a birth centre or labour ward. All of the mothers in this book chose to have their birth care provided by an individual midwife. These stories express the experiential aspects of childbirth and are used to educate midwives. There is also a description of a miscarriage and a stillbirth and the stories explain how the women managed to overcome their feelings of grief at the event. Arthur Hoyle
Arthur Robert Hoyle (1922 – 2 May 2012) was an Australian historian and biographer. Born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1922 to Arthur Hoyle (1896–1971) and Gertrude Underwood (1895–1972), he served in the Royal Air Force as a navigator during World War II with 460 Squadron and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Hoyle returned to Australia and married Moira Peisley (1924–1998). He had four sons, Arthur Marshall Hoyle Phillip, Warwick and Andrew (dec). He served in the Australian Public Service and later taught Administration at the University of Canberra. He held the degrees of BA (Hons) and Dip Ed (University of Sydney) and M.SocSci (University of Birmingham). He is best known for his biographies. Caroline Nellie Vernon (2 August 1908 – 7 May 1988) was a writer born in Woolwich, London, England to Emma Clark (née Pearce) and Frederick Clark. She married John Ernest Vernon, a writer in the Royal Navy in 1931. In 1936 she joined her husband in Malta where she spent the next seven years. She worked as a volunteer cryptanalyst.
