David M. Palone became interested in harness racing after his father took him to watch the Adios Pace in 1976. A year later he went to work for trainer Herman Hylkema. Palone won his first race in 1983. Palone has collected the most wins in a year three times (1999, 2000, and 2004) and was voted Harness Tracks of America Driver of the Year in 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2009. Hervé Filion
Hervé Arthur Filion, (February 1, 1940 – June 22, 2017) was a Canadian harness racing driver. He was the brother of Yves Filion who drove and trained the 1988 North America Cup winner; and the brother of Henri Filion (1941–1997) who died from his injuries following a racing accident at Hippodrome Aylmer, Quebec; and the uncle of Sylvain Filion who won the 1999 Harness Racing World Driving Championship . Born in Angers, Quebec, in 1940 Filion became the first driver to win over 400 races in a year and was able to achieve this accomplishment 14 more times. Filion is second all-time in career wins in North America, with 15,180. He was voted the Harness Tracks of America Driver of the Year a record ten times. In 2000, Filion pleaded guilty to charges that he failed to file New York State Income Tax Returns, ending a five-year investigation into race-fixing. The Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, originally The Meadows Racetrack and Casino, is a Standardbred harness-racing track and slot-machine casino which is located in North Strabane Township, Pennsylvania, United States, about southwest of Pittsburgh. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn Entertainment. History In November 1962, ground was broken for the first parimutuel horse-racing track in Western Pennsylvania. The track opened on June 28, 1963, and was operated by the Washington Trotting Association. The Washington Trotting Association was purchased in February 1973 by a group including famous trainer/driver Delvin Miller. Sweet Lou (horse)
Sweet Lou (foaled 2009) is a retired Standardbred Champion Pacing Stallion in the sport of harness racing. He was sired by Yankee Cruiser and out of the mare Sweet Future. In a two-year-old season in which Sweet Lou won ten of his twelve starts, he capped it off with a 7½ length win in the Breeders Crown 2YO Colt & Gelding Pace in a World Record time of 1:49 flat for the mile. He was voted the 2011 American Champion Two-Year-Old Male Pacer. He went on to a highly successful career in racing and added the 2014 American Champion Male Pacer and American Pacer of the Year awards to his résumé.
