Dara Lindenbaum
Dara Lindenbaum is an American election lawyer serving as a commissioner of the Federal Election Commission (FEC). She was nominated in January 2022 and confirmed by the Senate in May 2022. Education Lindenbaum earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Northeastern University and a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School in 2011. Career During the Iraq War, Lindenbaum was an activist with Code Pink. After graduating from law school, she worked as associate counsel in the Voting Rights Project at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. She was also a development assistant at Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Federal Election Commission
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent agency of the United States government that enforces U.S. campaign finance laws and oversees U.S. federal elections. Created in 1974 through amendments to the Federal Election Campaign Act, the commission describes its duties as "to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections." It is led by six commissioners who are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. The commission was unable to function from late August 2019 to December 2020, with an exception for the period of May 2020 to July 2020, due to lack of a quorum. In the absence of a quorum, the commission could not vote on complaints or give guidance through advisory opinions. Fair Fight Action is an American political organization founded in 2018 by Stacey Abrams to address voter suppression in Georgia and across the United States. Origins Stacey Abrams had long been involved with the Democratic Party, serving as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2007, and was the minority leader 2011–2017. In 2018 Abrams ran for Governor of Georgia against Republican Brian Kemp. The 2018 gubernatorial race received national attention for irregularities in voter access to the ballot. At the time, Kemp was serving as Secretary of State and was responsible for the state's voter rolls. He stalled 50,000 votes while he held this position. Civil rights groups interpreted this as intentional voter suppression since his action affected predominantly black voters.
