Daniel Guitard
Daniel Guitard (born October 1, 1959) is a Canadians, Canadian politician who has been serving as the first mayor of Belle-Baie since 2023. Previously, he was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 2014 New Brunswick general election, 2014 provincial election. He represented the electoral district of Restigouche-Chaleur as a member of the New Brunswick Liberal Association, Liberal Party. On October 23, 2018, members of the assembly selected Guitard to serve as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. On October 11, 2022, he announced his resignation due to his plans to 2022 New Brunswick municipal elections, run for mayor of the newly created municipality of Belle-Baie. He would end up being successful. He was previously mayor of Pointe-Verte, New Brunswick. He was born in Pointe-Verte, New Brunswick. The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick () is the deliberative assembly of the New Brunswick Legislature, in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The assembly's seat is located in Fredericton. It was established in Saint John ''de jure'' when the colony was created in 1784 but came into session only in 1786, following the first elections in late 1785. The legislative assembly was originally the lower house in a bicameral legislature. Its upper house counterpart, the Legislative Council of New Brunswick, was abolished in 1891. 2022 New Brunswick Municipal Elections
The 2022 New Brunswick municipal elections were held in the Canadian province of New Brunswick on 28 November 2022 to elect mayors and councillors in newly formed municipalities following the 2023 New Brunswick local governance reform process. The new municipalities came into existence on 1 January 2023. In total, there were elections for 50 new municipalities and 12 rural districts, with a total of 446 elected positions. Of the 446 positions, 148 seats were elected by acclamation. 12 positions had no candidates stand for election and were be filled in by-elections held on February 13 and October 23 of 2023. In addition, 13 elections were subject to recounts which took place between 1 December 2022 and 9 December 2022. Belle-Baie (, ) is a town in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It was formed through the 2023 New Brunswick local governance reforms. History Belle-Baie was incorporated on January 1, 2023, via the amalgamation of the former town of Beresford and the former villages of Nigadoo, Petit-Rocher and Pointe-Verte as well as the concurrent annexation of adjacent unincorporated areas.
