Dan Levinson
Daniel A. Levinson (born July 8, 1965) is an American jazz clarinetist, saxophone, saxophonist, and bandleader. He is best known for his mastery of the jazz styles of the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s. Career Born in Los Angeles County, California, Levinson has been a member of the bands of Leon Redbone and Vince Giordano in addition to leading multiple bands of his own, mostly in the New York City metropolitan area. ''The New York City Jazz Record'' is a New York City based monthly free newspaper about jazz Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, h ... music, including interviews, album releases, and a schedule of live jazz shows. It was launched in May 2002 by co-founders Laurence Donohue-Greene (Managing Editor) and Andrey Henkin (Editorial Director/Production Manager, who departed at the end of 2022) under the name ''AllAboutJazz-New York''. The gazette's name change switched permanently to ''The New York City Jazz Record'' as of March 2011. Dixieland jazz, also referred to as traditional jazz, hot jazz, or simply Dixieland, is a style of jazz based on the music that developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century. The 1917 recordings by the Original Dixieland Jass Band (which shortly thereafter changed the spelling of its name to "Original Dixieland Jazz Band") fostered awareness of this new style of music. History The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, recording its first disc in 1917, was the first instance of jazz music being called "Dixieland", though at the time, the term referred to the band, not the genre. The band's sound was a combination of African American/New Orleans ragtime and Sicilian music. Hep Records is a jazz record company and label founded by Alastair Robertson (born March 3, 1941, in Aberdeen, Scotland) in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1974. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Vince Giordano
Vince Giordano (born March 11, 1952) is an American saxophonist and leader of the New York-based Nighthawks Orchestra. He specializes in jazz of the 1920s and 1930s and his primary instrument is the bass saxophone. Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks have played on television and film soundtracks, including the HBO series ''Boardwalk Empire'' and Woody Allen's musical comedy film ''Everyone Says I Love You''. He also appeared in the 2023 film '' Killers of the Flower Moon'' as a radio show bandleader.
