Daisaku Kadokawa
is a Japanese politician and former mayor of Kyoto City, the capital city of Kyoto Prefecture. Overview Kadokawa was born in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. In 1969, he graduated from Kyoto Municipal Horikawa High School. Shortly afterwards, he started working for the Kyoto City Board of Education, while at the same time attending Ritsumeikan University Faculty of Law No. 2 to obtain a degree. He was the Kyoto City Superintendent of Education between 2001 and 2007. He was elected in the 2008 Kyoto mayoral election, receiving endorsements from the Liberal Democratic Party, the Komeito Party, and the Kyoto prefectural chapters of the Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party. 2024 Kyoto Mayoral Election
The 2024 Kyoto mayoral election was held on 4 February 2024. Incumbent mayor Daisaku Kadokawa did not run for a fifth term. Former Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Koji Matsui won by a slim margin of 3.48% against challengers Kazuhito Fukuyama, Shōei Murayama, and Shinji Ninoyu, two of which had run in the previous 2020 election. Kyoto Animation Arson Attack
The occurred at Kyoto Animation's Studio 1 building in the Fushimi ward of Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, on the morning of 18 July, 2019. The arson killed 36 people, injured an additional 34 (including the suspect), and destroyed most of the materials and computers in Studio 1. It is one of the deadliest massacres in Japan since the end of World War II, the deadliest building fire in Japan since the 2001 Myojo 56 building fire, and the first massacre ever to have occurred at a studio associated with an entertainment company, and the animation industry. The suspect, who did not work for the studio, entered the front door carrying about of gasoline, then doused the area and several employees before igniting it. House of Councillors elections were held in Japan on 21 July 2019 to elect 124 of the 245 members of the upper house of the National Diet for a term of six years. 74 members were elected by single non-transferable vote (SNTV)/First-past-the-post (FPTP) voting in 45 multi- and single-member prefectural electoral districts.
