Daffodil International University
Daffodil International University or (DIU) () is a private research university located in Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established on 24 January 2002 under the Private University Act of 1992. DIU is the largest private university in Bangladesh by its campus size. DIU is the first university in Bangladesh to have signed the UN's Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions. According to the SCOPUS indexed research publications in 2022, Daffodil International University has been positioned 2nd among all universities and 1st among all private universities in Bangladesh. ''The Independent'' was an English-language daily newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was owned by Beximco Group of Bangladesh. The last executive editor of the newspaper was Shamim Abdullah Zahedy. History On 26 March 1995, Beximco Group launched The Independent. In October 2010, the Independent newspaper was relaunched. The ''Times Higher Education World University Rankings'', often referred to as the THE Rankings, is the annual publication of university rankings by the ''Times Higher Education'' magazine. The publisher had collaborated with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) to publish the joint '' THE-QS World University Rankings'' from 2004 to 2009 before it turned to Thomson Reuters for a new ranking system from 2010 to 2013. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam is a Bangladeshi academic. He the vice-chancellor of Southeast University. He is the former vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU) and the founding vice-chancellor of Metropolitan University, Sylhet (MU). He was formerly the dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Sciences (SETS) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and a professor of computer science and engineering at Open University Malaysia (OPM) and BRAC University. Aminul Islam (academic)
Aminul Islam (1 January 1935 – 29 November 2017) was a Bangladeshi academic. He was the President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. He was a fellow of the academy since 1978. Early life and education Aminul Islam was born on 1 January 1935 in Nagerchar village of Homna Upazila of Comilla District. He completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in chemistry in 1954 and M.Sc. in Soil Science in 1955 from the University of Dhaka and Ph.D. in Soil Science from Michigan State University in 1962. Career Aminul Islam started his teaching career at the University of Dhaka in 1956 and worked at the Department of Soil Science until 1996.
